The title says it all really. I was in St Albans for a christening over the weekend and took in the match at Clarence Park yesterday. Some of you will know of the problems Darlington FC had last season which has put us in the Northern League which is step 5 in the pyramid. If you had asked me a few seasons ago whether I would be watching football this far down the pyramid I might have laughed. Please don't take that the wrong way because watching Darlington in step 5 has completely brought my love of football back to life.
So onto St Albans FC, firstly what a nice ground and £2.50 a pint in the club bar was pleasing on my wallet. Looking at team sheet I saw players I recognised from the football league like Barry Hayles, Micah Hyde and Mark Albrighton.
The first 10 minutes I thought the level of football was actually worse than in step 5 but then St Albans got into their stride and played some nice neat football. Your number 7 (sorry don't know his name) looked very tricky and I thought he should have seen more of the ball. Surprisingly your number 4 was a better passer of the ball than Hyde and took control of the game.
You were more than good enough for your 4-2 lead, but as has been said on the match thread your defence is very worrying. All four goals were defendable and came from silly mistakes. If you can strengthen in that department and you'll have a very good side with surely a chance at promotion.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit yesterday and when speaking to a Liverpool supporting St. Albans resident at the Christening, who is growing disillusioned the premiership, I got him to promise to take in a game in the next few weeks. You never know you might get him to convert.
Good luck for the rest of the season and you're officially now my second team. One last question what's the name of the black spaniel dog with the St Albans scarf on who was wandering round in the covered standing area.
