The two sides have only met twice in September 2012 the Saints won 2-1 at Privett Park when Gosport had a dreadful start to the season especially at home in the return match at Clarence Park in February 2013 Gosport won 6-1. This will be a very tough test with the Saints squad threadbare due to injuries to key players and loan signings having left as well as well as having a very bad run of results while Gosport have only lost 4 games and only conceded 15 goals. There's a strong rumour swirling around that Swindon have put an offer in for Matt Patterson, which if true would suggest he won't play this afternoon. That just leaves 25-goal Bennett to worry about!

That's on the Gosport website:http://www.gosportboroughfc.co.uk/news/pike-confirms-paterson-approach-1354075.html
Several clubs are also interested in midfielder Mike Carter

There's a strong rumour swirling around that Swindon have put an offer in for Matt Patterson, which if true would suggest he won't play this afternoon. That just leaves 25-goal Bennett to worry about! Swindon are currently trying to sign Jermain Hylton from Redditch and manager Mark Cooper has said that he's not after anyone else in this window. If the Hylton deal falls through though...

Programme seller at the Hatfield Road end of the ground said, slightly sarcastically "Spend, spend, spend," as I quietly ignored his offer of purchasing a match day programme.
Happy new year to you too.

We really are down to the bare bones. So much so that we could chuck the carcass of the Saints' season into a pot with some onions, carrots and celery and make a nice stock.

Great, battling, committed performance today against a physical and often ugly Gosport.

And it's only early January... Stay positive, wont you recentconvert? Point taken, Saint, point taken! That is why we love football. On paper, we were completely up against it but we were superb for 90 minutes and thoroughly deserved the points. So many positives throughout the team. Chappell's free kick, Locke putting his body on the line, Gorman's industry. Jack Green was terrific and scared the life out of them with his pace, as did Yearwood. The mist closed in gradually and Gosport had their moments but that was a very entertaining game and a terrific performance. It's not unfair to say it came out of the blue, though.

Great result and well-deserved after a performance full of heart and commitment. Probably the best feeling I've had leaving a Saints match since the playoff final. As has already been mentioned, Jack Green was a real highlight. The "tackle" on him was nothing more than an attempt to break and if not intimidate him and was more than deserving of the red card it received. We responded brilliantly to that as a team, and got the luck we deserved for our second. Nothing lucky about that Chappell free-kick though; a great goal. A real backs-to-the-wall job and credit to the team & management for digging out three points in very difficult circumstances. Fingers crossed for Darren Locke as that looked like a nasty injury out of a challenge that basically prevented a goal.

Having made my second pilgrimages to St Albans tho season, I was fully expecting a defeat with all the injuries sustained to key players. I was disappointed at the near empty ground - 800 less than for Hemel. As I write this post I'm on my 250 mile return journey home - but I'm so proud of the players and management. Whilst Gosport had more of the play in the early stages, they didn't create many chances. The free kick goal from Chappell was a peach. The goalie had no chance of getting to it. I had a feeling that a lapse in concentration was going to gift an equaliser and do it was in injury time in the first half following Locke's injury. Too much space given at the far post and Coulton stood no chance. The second half started pretty much the same as the first until an awful lunge by a Gosport player was fully deserving of a red card. The scrambled second goal from Saints just after the sending off was just the boost they needed. Although Gosporr had a few chances to level, Saints had enough to put the game to bed. The players attitude was magnifice. I was particularly impressed with Jack Green and Omar Beccles. If we've got youngsters of the attitude and ability the future will be very bright. A final word of thanks to Graham Golds and James Gray who are doing a fantastic job.

Locke's injury, Gray believes, is not as serious as it looked, but even so, Kaloczi is due to be in the squad for Wood.
Charlie Smith should be resigned this week, while Gray is speaking to other players this week.

Great all round performance today, as most with the fresh injuries I didn't hold out much hop, how wrong I was, first 20 or so the seemed in control without creating too many chances, but we gradually came into the game, must say jack green did catch the eye, but as usual there were a lot of unsung performances out there that without them this result wouldn't have happened, onwards & upwards

Fantastic battling performance today. Even at half time I didn't have enough faith to expect 3 points. I brought along my 11 year old daughter and one of her friends - first football match for both. I thought being beaten by Gosport on a foggy, freezing Sunday afternoon would have killed off their (limited) interest. How wrong I was! A win - and chocolate muffins - resulted in both wanting to come back again COYS!!!!!

I think a top 10 finish will be a very good first season back in the Connoe South bit we need to pick up a few more points over the next few home games. If they play like they did today we'll get there.
