Oh Wow what can I say! When I saw the team sheet as I arrived at the ground, I seriously cannot believe out of all the games I have been too, that this is the game I finally saw the saints win since staines back in September. What a remarkable game! The Lads spirit, determination and togetherness was joy to watch. Despite Gosports long spells of possession in the first half they really did nothing with it. Other than the goal and that really dodgy swervy shot Tommy C had nothing to do. Lee Chappells first goal was top class, no keeper in the world saves that as he stuck it top bins. I thought Bailey ran his socks off. Sam was quite brilliant when he could get on the ball, he used it so well and made a fool of a few. Plus he won the mental battle, he really got into the heads of their players and probably contributed to the sending offs and collapse. So much so Gosport Players were heard to be cursing his name after the game.
When Locky went off I thought we were in trouble especially as when beckles had played CB for AFC Hornchurch their defensive record was not something to be desired, but he was superb along with Gayle it was a really commanding performance. That change allowed a quite brilliant 17 yr old kid Jack Green (Danny Green Brother) to show us potentially the next star of the St.Albans City youth. I'm not going to get carried away as it's only one game, but that kid terrorised there RB Moleyneux to the point that he was so embarrassed he didn't want to be on the pitch anymore. It was a disgusting challenge and how his manager thinks that is not a red is incredible and his reaction to a 17yr kid is disgusting. I loved the way the team showed real togetherness to protect him when things looked as if they were about to get ugly. Jack Green has pace in abundance, which is an asset we are missing, tricky and a lovely footballing brain. If he continues with such performances get the boy on a contract as we don't want a Sean Shields repeat.
Danny Green was superb in the middle and was constantly harassing players winning first and second balls. Howie did a fantastic job at filling in for Kyriacou and actually offered great ariel protection too. Yearwood was fantastic too, he also has pace and cause there defenders real problems in the latter stages and ended up getting another of their players sent off to seal the deal. All players were superb and I could pick out great things about all the players performances it was a real team performance and I hope to see many more. Lastly to Lee Chappell there have been some times negative times this year, but since being given the responsibility as captain in these last two games. I think he has been absolutely superb and has really stepped up to the mark.

James K was at game yesterday and will be back with us next week. Good news . Good result against a t3eam who can score and not concede. Thought first sending off should have been a straight red and not two yellows. Better corners free kicks today and players not afraid to shoot and make the defence/goalie have to do something. No great quality but its the results that matter. anyone can beat anyone

Thought first sending off should have been a straight red and not two yellows. Fairly sure the first sending-off was a straight red, unless I missed something?

However, we had no passengers yesterday and everyone put in a shift-just as it should be really. goal of the season contender as well. The first goal wasn't bad either. The Wooood although scoring goals are now conceding some as well-hows Ben doing?

I agree with what's already been written - what a cracking game of football! I found a parking space much nearer to CP than usual and sat listening to the end of the Dover v Palace FA Cup game thinking how little I was looking forward to getting out of the car. By the time I'd made my way to the ground and found my spot I was still thinking how little I wanted to be at this game. The team news was even more depressing and the opening few minutes looked like it was going to be a long and cold afternoon.
But as has already been stated, The Saints gave a battling performance full of the energy and fight that I, amongst others, have been bemoaning the lack of recently. I'm not sure I can remember that much skill on show which didn't bother me as an afternoon like that is no place for fancy footwork and tricks. It was a "roll your sleeves up and fight for three points" type of game and that's what the players gave. Given the predicted strength of the opposition I was very surprised by how little they created and how little they looked as if they were up for the scrap. And the moaning at the ref: goodness me Gosport, grow up!
I've seen much better games than this at CP but I don't think I've been as happy at the final whistle for ages (Chesham notwithstanding). Every player worked hard for each other, it really was a pleasure to watch.
I've been critical of Lee Chappell recently but the guy has amazing talents. He is quick, can hit a dead ball with accuracy and he really fired the team up. I've seen many worse left-backs than him playing regularly at League Two level, if he could harness his temperament more positively he has the skill to play in the Football League, although I suspect that its probably a bit late in his career to make the switch. Nevertheless, if making him captain brings this sort of performance out of him then I hope he keeps the armband. He put in a great performance and was my MOTM.

You are of course correct Saint. It was a straight red. I meant the 2nd sending off. And lets not forget the fact that their goalie should have been yellow carded at least and a penalty for us to boot in 1st half.

A charge or shoulder-charge is a direct free kick or penalty kick (http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/laws/football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct) - the video clearly shows their keeper got the ball then 'charged' into Bailey. No idea why ref gave them a free kick - especially given his view of the incident

Have to say at first glance I thought it was an unavoidable clash as Bailey's momentum took him into the goalkeeper. But looking at that video the 'keeper clearly sidesteps in order to deliberately clean Bailey out. Pretty nasty.
