I noticed that Ben Mackey has left St Neots Town and that Lewis Toomey has joined Kings Langley.
I was impressed with both of them on the numerous occasions I saw them last season, Toomey in particular. I know Toomey was at Saints before but that was before my time. What was he like? He left Hemel for Boreham Wood in December but has left Wood already and dropped down to the Spartan South Midlands League leaders. That's three steps below Conference South. Surely he's too good for that league?
I know players move around for a lot of reasons – work commitments, location, money but I wonder if Toomey would cut it here?
Not so sure about Mackey – he was a very well-built player and from the look of his Twitter feed, he seems more interested in body-building, bulking up by eating five meals a day and taking Maximuscle.

Interesting about Toomey as I thought he was well regarded at Hemel and left to join Wood around the same time as Martin left the Saints. Strange he has dropped down to King's Langley which of course is not far from our city...

Toomey did well for Saints in my opinion & I watched them plenty of times that season. I think he left of his own accord & it may have been about the time of David Howells departure & the G men's succession when there was great deal of player movement. I think he played up top with Barry Hales during his time at CP. I'm sure he played a few games under Golds & Gray but may have been lured to B Wood by the £££££.
No idea why he would drop down to step 5 although Kings Langley are walking away with that league & perhaps he is doing a mate a favour? Scored today unsurprisingly.

Toomey from what I've heard left Hemel after having a bit of a hissy fit, refusing to train, and thus was placed out for a transfer, leading to Wood getting him not so long ago. His departure from Hemel seemed to be a bit acrimonious.
I remember him when he was originally here, and he did score quite a few goals, and was in my opinion, one of our better players, but soon jumped ship when the Wood came calling again.
Mackey was let go by Hemel, and was struggling to get into the team, I don't know if he could do any better here? I think the Southern League is his natural level.

The general opinion on Ben Mackey seems to be that while he is good enough for the Southern League Premier, the Conference South is a stretch too far. As far as a Lewis Toomey is concerned, his brother Connor plays for Kings Langley so I would think it is local for him and he getting in some game time. He did well at the Saints, when he was with us and also did well at Hemel Hempstead. In the past, though, he has been very injury prone and has continually been out for long periods. Otherwise, I think he would have had a queue of clubs after him. A good striker, certainly good enough for the Conference South but it is no good if he is going to miss a third of every season through injury.

Thought Toomey left us for an extra £50 a week in his pay from Hemel.
Is not a player I want back.
Prefer younger and hungry players being brought in.

Lewis Toomey is still only 23 years old, so age is not a factor, but he has moved about a lot in a short space of time.
Having said that, we've recently signed Michael Malcolm who's had more clubs than Tiger Woods and is 29.
Hopefully Malcolm can settle here and have a good run in the team, score a few goals between now and then end of the season and strike up a bit of a partnership with Frendo.

Toomey left us under a bit of a cloud, I thought he was a very good player for us TBF but he spent ages injured and we paid him during his injury only to butter off to Borehamwood more or less as soon as he was fit again

No previous loyalty - no return IMO.

All fair points there. I didn't know the history, so thanks for filling me in. I just thought he was more than half-decent at Hemel last season, he's young and drifting down to a level below one he's proved himself at, so wondered if there was any potential in getting him back.
But usually when something looks too good to be true it is.
Mention of Boreham Wood above reminds me that Ben Martin hasn't exactly tightened up their defence in recent weeks has he? They've been losing by three and four and have slipped off the top.

I heard that the rest of the team weren't talking to the defenders on the coach on the way back from the Whitehawk game. They dropped Ben for the Farnborough game last night beating them 3-0 albeit with 3 late goals
