Interesting, One thing though Nick Archer seems to be confirming that the budget is more or less the same as last season. Obviously, I don't know but the consensus seems to be that the budget last season was about the 4th lowest in the division. If the relative budget (compared to other teams in the division is about the same) then surely Grey/Golds must be seen as doing an excellent job provided they keep us clear of the relegation battle. Expectations mustreflect the budget. I am not sure how helpful it is talk about top 10 and potentially playoffs - it is just not reasonable to expect to compete with teams with much greater budgets. In 2013/14 Crystal Palace had the 4th lowest wage bill in the PL, it would unhelpful to the managers for the chairman to discuss Europa league qualification. I be very happy with matching last years performance in the league- thought we were a bit disappointing in the cups (like to see some improvement there)
Also is there not a slight contradiction between the claims that boost the budget has made a palpable difference and the fact overall budget is about the same as last season?

Boost the Budget is being used on top of the existing playing budget and some of the initial funds collected were used to help bring in the two new players.

Agree about expectations, bob666. Think it's good to have a buzz about the place though, and that belief that we can potentially challenge the top half can only be a good thing as long as we don't expect to be 10 points clear by Christmas. Concur about the cups, would love a good run in those. In terms of the budget, my understanding is that BtB helped with the transfer fees for Theophanus and Thomas; when Mr. Archer speaks about the "budget" being the same as last season I take it to be referring to wages. I could be completely wrong on that, however. Not a huge fan of speculating on finances either way.

I think you are completely correct, COYS, with your interpretation of the budget as being the wage bill
