Theo had a good chance well saved, while he also had a penalty appeal waved away.

Two mistakes in two games and Welch needs dropping? Indeed, he was poor today, but over the whole season, I personally believe Welch saves a lot more points than he gives away.
Though, today's first goal was an easy save, and I'm sure he is more than well aware that he should have dealt with it a lot better.
(No Goalkeeper is perfect... I'm reminded of the stupid red cards Bastock occasionally picked up, doing ridiculous things.. Yet he's still a bit of a legend at the club)
I would not say that dropping Welch would do him or the team any good, and indeed, Coulton is not at Welch's level, in my opinion.

Saint, you don't think Welch was at fault for either of the goals scored by Maidenhead ? In my opinion he has made two shocking handling errors in consecutive matches which have cost us goals,he is invariably rooted to his line whenever we are defending corners, both Maidenhead and Bishops Stortford scored with headers from within the six yard box from corners. His kicking is very poor, perhaps you have forgotten the scuffed clearance at Lowestoft that lead to their third goal, and today where he kicked it at the back of an attacker that led to another chance. I realise that I am in a minority here and that most fans love him - they even voted him man of the match down at Whitehawk where he let in six !

This a game we should never have lost but first and foremost, we need to talk about the state of the pitch. It was an utter disgrace and something akin to a Christmas pudding. The chances of playing anything like decent football on it were nil. Bishop's Stortford played a friendly on it last Tuesday evening against a Leyton Orient XI in torrential rain the whole game and the pitch didn't look as if it had been touched since. You have to question why.
To the actual game. To be expected, with the state of the 'pitch', it was poor, as were both sides. I don't think we helped ourselves one bit by starting Crawford and Gibson over Edwards and Meade, who were both excellent at Basingstoke last week. Sorry but I don't understand the thinking. Too many players were not on top of their game, especially in midfield, where we were second best pretty much all afternoon. Corcoran was excellent but we could have done with Green in there as well, to provide substantially more bite and work rate. Oshodi and Bender both did well and Johnson made an impressive debut. Both goals we conceded were cheap. The first has already been talked about previously and the second followed yet another set piece. All in all, an extremely disappointing result.
We need to bounce back tomorrow and not lose that momentum gained over the past few games.

The result could have gone any way yesterday and despite his mistake there is no way Welch should be dropped. If it wasn't for him we would be in an even worse position than we are currently in.
There are other players in the team that could do with being dropped before Joe. Chappell and Martin being the first two that spring to mind.

Have to agree. Welch rarely gives away goals and - respect your opinion yorkroader - but against Whitehawk his defence were awol and gave him little chance for at least five of the six goals. Even the greatest keepers make mistakes and as a keeper your mistakes are often the most expensive - but he has saved the defence on many occasions when they have been at fault.
The last two matches, Comley made an unusually high number of misplaced passes - and poor pitches I think we're partly responsible for that. I look forward to seeing us return to a decent playing surface tomorrow

so. We are exactly half way through our season and 20 points from 21 games is relegation form. we can be grateful that so many teams are equally as poor as we have been as to still have a chance of surviving is amazing. Too many mistakes from team yesterday from back to front. Goalie mistakes may lose us games but lack of shots and goals will not win us any. shoot for f... sake. back to one touch too many again and poor quality crosses and dead ball situations etc. The second BS goal was so predictable and we seemed unable to stop the ball getting into danger zones whilst being unable to do so ourselves. And talk of our goalkeeper being responsible for our defeats are just plain silly. lack of goals . end of. we are light in front of goal. My reckoning is that we need to get 30 points from remaining games to ensure survival. That's ten wins from 21 approximately. a tall order. nothing but wins at home will do. great performances but losing of no use. Tighten up defence and score more goals . sounds simple but we we are in for a rough ride for remainder of season and anyone not pulling weight has to be dispensed with asap. Our goalie is not one. he is our last line and it is up to our defence to protect him. We can gub Chelmsford tomorrow but wont if we pussyfoot in front of goal, You don't win games unless you have shots on target and we need our players to adopt a shoot on site approach. I hope we can avoid relegation as the league below is one we need to avoid especially with plans for new stadium etc(LOL). And BS running out of beer before half time was a joke. And their chips cost 2.50!!! Made our fare seem a bargain. mind you their admission prices of 13 and 8 put us to shame. COYS

From the video it is obvious that Bishops Stortford's first goal was not the keeper's finest moment, but FFS it was a free header. What on earth were the centre halves playing at?
