www.stalbanscityfc.com/hampton-richmond-borough-h-match-preview/St.Albans City have been given a home fixture on Non League Day after a four year wait. This Saturday sees the visit of high flying Hampton and Richmond Borough who arrive at Clarence Park sitting in second place in the National League South table one place above their hosts. The Beavers were a surprise winner of last seasons Ryman Premier League having finished in fifteenth position the previous time. Alan Dowson’s free scoring team secured the title on the last day of the season with a draw against Enfield in front of over two thousand three hundred supporters. Hampton banged in one hundred and five goals during their title winning campaign and have continued in free scoring manner with nineteen on the board already, comfortably the top scorers in the National South. Last seasons top scorer Nicke Kambala who starred for Burnham against the Saints in the Southern League has found the net on three occasions. Another striker who needs no introduction to the Clarence Park faithful is the enigmatic Jamal Lowe. Signed originally on loan from Barnet and then on a permanent deal, Lowe showed signs of brilliance but could not maintain a consistent level of form and was released last summer. Jamal spent some time at our neighbours Hemel Hempstead Town before moving on to Hampton where he has clearly found a club that suits his style, he heads the Beavers scoring charts with six goals from the opening seven matches. The Saints have continued their good form from the end of last season winning five of the first seven matches. The latest a comprehensive beating of Weston-super-Mare at the Woodspring Stadium on Monday, this performance being all the more remarkable after the team bus took over six hours to reach the destination after being held up in the holiday traffic. This victory was their fourth in succession after the ignominious defeat at Bath City and saw Allinson play a 5-2-1-2 formation with George Casey and Ben Herd as wing-backs, and Matt Ball who was given his league debut playing just behind the two strikers. The manager had tried this formation only once previously at Ebbsfleet last season resulting in a single goal defeat but clearly had no qualms about changing a winning formula here. Ben Martin who has missed the last two matches after a break in the United States returns to the squad and will be joined by new signing David Noble who was previously with Exeter City. With both teams in a rich vein of form an exciting encounter will be eagerly anticipated by a bumper crowd as third faces second in what is clearly the match of the season so far in the National South League. ©2016 Walter Burns

Think we played ok, Hampton were good going forward, and are a good side, we were unlucky not to get more goals in the first half.
Oh well go again on Tuesday , still have confidence in the side that we can compete well in the league.

Poor result, but maybe a wake up call at this stage is a good thing.
How did Ben Martin play ?

Yes, perhaps a bad day at the office today but really no disgrace losing to a very, very good Hampton & Richmond side. Jamal Lowe and Nicke Kabamba were excellent and caused all sorts of problems for our defence, especially in the centre, where we looked far too static at times. Very impressed by David Noble, when he came on. Some poor refereeing decisions today but, to be fair, it didn't affect the end result. A long way to go and we are still 4th.
Onwards and upwards starting Tuesday evening against Poole Town
COYS!

We played really well and against a lesser team would have won. But H&R were very good there's no doubt. Only really fell apart in second half and lost the plot completely when H&R went down to 10. !? Couldn't string two passes together for last 15 mins (not to our own players anyway!). I'm not too grumpy as I think we tried - thats all I want (oh, and a win if possible!)

why oh why did Noble not start the game ?? Fitness levels, hasn't played a full 90 since his release in the summer and Allinson spoke after the game of the need to get him up to speed and full fitness.

Hampton showed speed and great movement in attack. No wonder they have started so well. Move on to Tuesday and get back to winning ways.

Hampton fans said we were best team they have played this season. Makes a change from beating teams and losing manager saying we are the worst team they have played...

Including today, these next 6 games are absolutely critical to our season. If we are still in FA Cup and play off places at the end of them I will be a very happy bunny! Been v critical of Scott Thomas before on this forum but fair play to him now he is playing in his best position he is a different player this season. Perhaps big Sam could learn a lesson??

I don't think Hampton are that great they are a fast counter attacking side that will score goals but their defence doesn't look great and you can see why they concede so many too.
Our biggest problem was not taking the lead when in control in the first 20 minutes or so and then getting sucker punched so we were always playing catch up and a couple of bad defensive errors meant they had a 2 goal lead and it was game over really.
I think with Ryan there we would never have concede 4 and May even have won the game.

Enjoyed my visit. I won the signed shirt as well! . Pity we got soaked at the end. I felt Hampton deserved victory overall. A long 400 mile return trip though! Hope it's different on Turesdayiinevery way.
