Great result and a superb game for the telly! The lads can be very proud of that.
My dream stays alive of Saints v Swindon tie 😁

My first ever City game was the Walsall Cup tie in 1968 where we were winning for 80 minutes before losing the replay, I’ve supported them for most of the time since but I didn’t really expect I’d ever see a win against a League side,
I thought FGR were the better side in the first half, but the longer the game went on the more I started to believe. Everyone played their part but I want to particularly mention the full backs, Diedhiou and Lankshear - they both worked their socks off against talented opponents and I lost count of how many brilliant tackles they put in.
I’m proud to be a Snorbuns supporter!
P.S. thanks to Kevin from Eastbourne Borough for his message, a touch of class there.

My first game ever was also Walsall. So many years of disappointment but what a performance today. Thought we were going to get blown away in the first 20 mins, Forest Green looked really good. Our first goal changed it all and after that we were superb, every player. Skillful, fully committed, outstanding. What a day. Well done everyone behind the scenes and the manager and backroom staff and owners
Thought the beeb did a really good job as well. Settle for home to Buxton next round and then Tottenham or Arsenal at home after that. Not getting ahead of myself of course :-)

Makes a change to go into the next round not seeing "St Albans or" as we did after the first game against Walsall and Torquay United subject to a replay which we lost. We are there because we won so it's "St Albans".

FGR made mistake of too many changes to previous lineup...6 was it?...underestimating opponents and not taking their chances...at one up it looked liked they felt job done...however..we were no plucky losers this time and deservedly got and rode our luck ..but bodies on line and some great saves and tackles as well as poor FGR free kicks at end gave us a deserved win...COYS

What a fantastic performance by the team and occasion for the club.
The Park was packed and looked fantastic on TV. The aerial shots from the drone were particularly spectacular.
The atmosphere in the ground was great too and there was a real sense that the club had managed to capitalise on the occasion commercially. Yes, there were queues and it was busy but everything seemed to be moving quickly. Yes, there were big crowds for the Mansfield and Carlisle ties but, Mansfield especially, just felt like they'd opened the doors and let people in rather than tried to create a sense of it being an event.
And what a difference to the recent FA Cup first round matches on the pitch too. Falling behind, and then letting the lead slip in injury time at the end of the first half could have been significant setbacks but Saints were the better team in the second half, even though they had to defend heroically at times as FGR tried to force the equaliser.
Roll on the second round draw. The team have equalled history but can they go one better than the 1968 team that lost to Walsall, the 1980 team that lost to Torquay and the 1996 team that lost to Bristol City and reach the third round?

A home draw against either someone realistically beatable, or against a real giant, would be great.

A few posts from the Forest Green Rovers forum: forum.fgr.co.uk/post/match-thread-from-clarence-park-st-albans-fac-12043793?&trail=15The team can be very proud........of their haircuts. At least the barber played well this week. Shocking. We got what we deserved..........nothing. I never want to watch FGR on live tv again !!. Man of the entire match, G/K Johnson! Too complacent. From players and managers. Up to the 1-0 and shortly after they could not compete with us. After the goal we thought we had won, eased off, and got what it is deserved. You can spin it any way you want ..shocking line up and shocking performance... especialy the haircuts. Embarassed . Depressed and sad. Fair play to St Albans, never tired never stopped running. I feel quite embarrassed today. Not for the defeat but for the manner in which we approached the game. RE obviously thought we didn't need a high flying top of the league line up to beat a team 2 leagues below us. How wrong he was. I hate to think that comes across a arrogance. But why did he not change the shape when it was clear it wasn't working ? We had players on the bench that could have made a difference

What a great day, never been so proud of St Albans City FC.
I noticed there was a late change of referee, which was a shame. Although I thought Mr Madely officiated the game well.
Oh, and if we get drawn at home again, please don't do another raffle, or at least get decent prizes.

That last ditch challenge by Dave Diedhiou in the dying minutes was unbelievable. It really sums up the spirit in this team.

Yep that tackle was unbelievable. The follow up save and blocks with bodies flying in front of ball were also brilliant

MJ was just on Talk Sport talking about his lucky Inter Milan towel which got pinched when the crowd ran onto the pitch after the game.
Someone must know where it is?
