Don't get the logic of benching Jeffers.
Mid table awaits, washed down with craft beer and chicken wings.

Another disappointing result.was the crowd disappointing as well? With the exception of the crowd behind the goals, most of the crowd had little interest in the football, some of them actually standing with their backs to the game. So yes, pretty disappointing.

Don't get the logic of benching Jeffers. Mid table awaits, washed down with craft beer and chicken wings. I don’t think I saw any food sold from the demolished corner of the ground. I felt sorry for the vendors there. Well worth knocking down a big chunk of our beautiful ground for!!!

So we are starting the bloke from Tonbridge ahead of Jeffers, unbelievable! I heard a story today as to why Jeffers starrted against Chelmsford. If tue, even more unbelievable. We should have won today's game by half time with a natural goalscorer on the pitch.

To hell with the food, that's not important. The match was poor, unless we improve crowds will fall. You can't fool people with beer and burgers.

The weird thing is that while the game was 3-2 it was not particularly entertaining. Their goals were more a result of shambolic defending, Johnston expected. For our first goal we just caught them cold and I did not think out attacking patterns of play were great. Eastbourne did not look a great side either. The issue is that for all the increase in crowds, commercial growth etc the team just look the same as they did when we were getting 700. No-one objects to the chicken, beer and promotion of the 'CP experience' but for long-standing fans, I think, what we want to see is that growth translated to a better playing squad and success on the pitch.
I wonder how the crowds will hold up as winter comes in. Are the chicken and beer crowd going like the idea of sitting round with their pint ignoring the football when it is 5 degrees rather than a balmy 22.

Another pretty abject result and performance. Jeffers was the fall guy after last weeks shambolic performance, which probably came as no surprise to anyone. Noble no doubt felt he had to play him last week after his brace at Chelmsford and couldn't wait to get him back on the bench at the first opportunity. If he genuinely thinks that the guy from Tonbridge is a better option he's on another planet to the rest of us. We just seem to pretty much play the same game every week, there's never a change of tactics, we make the same subsitituions at pretty much the same point of the game. There's a number of players who quite clearly aren't up to it, but continue to be picked, whilst others who clearly aren't fancied by the manager (Fage & Jeffers) are taken off or dropped at the first opportunity regardless of ability.
Minty - interested to know what you heard about Jeffers at Chelmsford?

Jeffers and Fage are both are quality players, yet glorified pub players start ahead of them.
I don't know what is going on.

Jeffers at Chelmsford was discussed on the podcast. They heard that the only reason he started was because the new guy thought it was a home game and went to Clarence park.
I assume the new guy was cup tied for the FA cup which is why Jeffers played at billericay! I wonder what would have happened if he had taken his decent headed chance, I assume he would have still dropped to the bench this week.
Leaving him on the bench is excusable if we are winning. The pressure will start to build if we have a run of loses.

I have heard via a friend of mine who is in contact with an ex-official that as well as being on a goal bonus, Jeffers is also on a performance bonus. Could it be that Nobby's hands are tied from higher up?

I thought the first half was decent. We attacked with more pace than usual and some of the link-up play was pretty good. Although we deserved to be ahead at half-time I was worried about the defence and it was no great surprise when it collapsed completely in the second half. In our defence (pardon the pun) we have an entire back four injured (Brown, James, Wyatt and now Clark) but even allowing for that it was poor. Thankfully Johnson made some impressive saves. Oddly after the triple substitutions I though we looked completely ineffective and not once did I think we were going to equalise.
Eastbourne were a decent side and I wouldn't have begrudged them one point, but three? I don't think so.
I've tried to stay neutral on the Jeffers debate, but no longer. If we insist on playing with one up front then I can see that sometimes it makes sense to start with Weiss with his greater work-rate and physical presence. But if we choose to play him behind the lone striker (not the worst idea) then it has to be Jeffers up front! It would be unfair to judge Akanbi on one performance but yesterday he was slow and when he did get the ball in a good position he took so long to line up the shot the defence were able to regroup and block it. Tuesday against Hemel would have been the ideal time to give him 90 minutes, not yesterday.
If it's true that we're paying Jeffers two or three times more than the rest of the squad then it makes absolutely no sense to make him in effect our third-choice striker. I can't believe Noble can't play him because of the bonuses he'd get - if that was true why did we re-sign him? But if he's only going to be a bit part player we should let him go and free up the money to sign two or three other players to bolster our small squad.
I expect Akanbi to play again on Tuesday, which is a good idea. But if he doesn't look any sharper and still gets picked ahead of Jeffers at Farnborough I'm going to have to reconsider my views on Noble. So far I've supported him but...

Jeffers took a 2 year deal and is in the second year.
The owners are still taking a lot of advice from Austin.
The fans are being ripped off, as the best player never gets a chance.

Jeffers was signed on the 2 year contract by Ian Allinson. Thinking about it a bit more the match bonus thing is a bit bizarre. Why would you sign a striker from Tonbridge and pay him instead of paying Jeffers bonuses. It's all very weird.

Could it be that Nobby's hands are tied from higher up? Well, something is going on, regarding the playing of Jeffers, or the non-playing l should say, but IF, and only IF, he's not being played because of game bonuses, it absolutely stinks, this! I'm not brave enough to ask, but if l was, I'd just ask Levy, face to face, what is going on, cos a lot of us fans have been wondering about the playing of Jeffers and deserve some honest answer's. A bit of honest clarity from the Club wouldn't go amiss, would it, or a bit of honest clarity from Noble wouldn't go amiss, either, but we're not going to get either, l don't think. And it's not for tactical reasons that Jeffers only starts from the bench, that's rubbish. This'll just roll on and on until Jeffers contract is due up, then he'll either go of his own accord or he'll be released, l cannot see him signing on again unless things are different

Anyway, enough from me anyway, about Jeffers, regarding yesterday match, l don't know what it was, but at 2-2 l just had the feeling they'd score again, and so they did, you could just see it coming. Some of our play was good, the new boy from Tonbridge was disappointing, but we're just not good enough to win the game. We are sorely missing our injured players, losing an entire back line of what was a new defence this season anyway, was always likely to cost us. I just don't see any good loan players coming into the Club like we had last season, maybe its ealy days still, but is this an avenue that Noble is looking into, or thinking of looking into, or has he been told that he can't for financial reasons or something. Noble is just going to swim with the tide and as far as the owners go, he knows he is in a comfortable position, l think it'd have to be something really bad for him to want to leave. He has done really well since he came in, don't get me wrong, we're in a good league, admittedly not doing as well as we'd like, the owners are generating good money though the food and drink outlets, albeit that's all gone way over the top l think, and they, as I've said before, got a Quick and easy fix in as Manager, when they appointed Noble. But it is what it is, you just have to hope that we get better as a team, albeit with maybe one or two good additions
