Do any other 'oldies' remember a keeper from the late Fifties, possibly into the very early Sixties, called Joe Fuentes?
He was something of a cult figure, and I notice that there is no mention of him in the lists of past players?

I've heard of him. He was also on the books at Luton Town i think.
Made his debut at home to Oxford City on April 25th 1959. The last game of that season. Didn't play agaijn until October12th the following season at home to Woking.
Fuentes and Kershaw basically shared the goalkeeping jersey for the rest of that season, He took over as No 1 keeper in 1960-61 until October 8th 1960 away F A Cup against Hitchin Town 0-4 whenMike Lucker took over. He played once more Away to Ilford on December 27th 1-1 which was his last game.
Fuentes appears as the goalkeeper in the line ups of the matches mentioned according to the football match reports.

Thanks for that, Brummie.
Luton at that time were rather a good team: FA Cup Final 1959! Their goalkeeper was Ron Baynham who was an England international, so being on their books is actually quite impressive.

Correct bobstan. Joe never played for Luton's first team but he made several appearances for their Football Combination and South East Counties League side. Not sure where he went after he left Luton and St Albans City.
Perhaps we ought to start up a "Where are they now?" thread.

Webbo, you're a star. Thanks for that. Your faith was not misplaced, Hatboy!
I didn't remember how few times Fuentes actually played.
