i don't understand why st. albans are one of the favourites to win this league what have they done to deserve it. at best they will finish in the top half of the table, simply not good enough!

Thought draw was probably a fair result. Important not to lose first game. Toomey showed some potential in first half with some great movement and touches. All went off the boil in second half. Bringing on Henry for Shields was a bit strange when i thought Graham didn't do much apart from find a Banbury player from each cross or set piece. Early days, but are signs of promise.

A fair result on the day but a poor game and if we are going to win this league or even make the play offs, we need to play a lot better than that witnessed yesterday. It may have been an away point at Banbury but, for all their considerable effort and endeavours, they looked to be a team destined to finish in the lower half of the table come the end of the season and these are the sort of teams, from which it is imperative that we take 3 points.
Our best player was Toomey, who tried hard all game but worryingly seemed to pick up a knock later in the second half. I felt there was very little cohesion on view but perhaps some of that was down to the number of new players in the side.
Tuesday night's game will be an interesting guide to our fortunes this season. Gary Roberts's sides generally try to play passing football so let's hope that plays into our hands. It will also be useful to compare the strengths and weaknesses of Craig Hammond and Barry Hayles.

The first game of any new season is very difficult to assess. As long as we did not lose I suppose is the main thing. Lets see if we can kick on from here in the midweek game

There seems to me to be a constant undercurrent of negativity surrounding the signing of Barry Hayles, which I feel is totally unjustified. Hayles has made Just two appearances for us,and on each occasion he has set up Toomey for well taken goals. Yesterday he was up against a pair of bruisers and held his own well, even winning the free kick that resulted in our equaliser.
Comparisons with Craig Hammond are superfluous. We made a bid for Hammond and Cambridge did not want to sell,so end of story. We have signed Barry Hayles so let's get behind him and give him the support he deserves.

Thanks for the link lonecrank. a very fair report I think. However, where are people/other teams getting this idea that we have been big spenders and ar one of the BIG teams expecrid to be challenging for the league? I always hope we are in that position but I heard this comment from many Puritans on Saturday- youve spent big/got lots of cash/ . Dont know on what basis. Certainly not on last seasons form and as Ive said tomorrows game against Cambridge will give us a better idea. As for waiting till after the Fome game to make a judgement, fair enough. Leage aint won in August /September but can surely be lost. Cirencester came to us first game last year and many of us clearly saw that they were poor and so they proved to be. However our second game at Cambridge showed us the enormity of our task. Its games like Saturdays that we NEED to win.Banbury were no great shakes. Neither were we. But 3 points against that standard of opposition is a must if we have ANY hope of escaping this Pub League. Lets hope for a decent and vocal crowd tomorrow and a good result.

And fair enough Mr Hayles has only played two games. But he didnt have the pace to beat that lump of a Number 4 for them. Didnt win many headers either-goal apart. Our number 9 was clearly carrying an injury last 20 mins as well. And we do get behind our players. whether or not they are good enough is another matter. Not interested if they are trying hard/doing there best if it aint good enough though!
