Thought it was a thoroughly entertaining match. I thought Sean Shields had another good game and is developing into a potentially very good player. However he does need to pass the ball a bit more when he's in and around the box rather than blasting from range. Toomey was again superb and his first goal was really well taken. Still not sure about Graham, would like to see Shields on one wing and Henry on the other. Defence still looking a bit shakey but needs time to gel as a unit however there was a foul on one of our players which went unnoticed by the ref before their first goal. On the whole all looking very promising!!

Very good win and a great way to start off playing at home! Cambridge should have been one up after the first couple of minutes with an easy chance that was softly struck straight at Jupp. After this chance the Saints didn't just play well, they dominated! The sort of performance that makes supporters proud to shout the teams name! Cambridge were no mugs but we played brilliantly, the two strikers paired up well and Richard Graham was making passes nobody else could or would attempt.
The second half Cambridge came at us strongly in but all the players battled hard. I have to disagree with James Gray being a candidate for MOTM. Their first goal came from Gray having time on the ball with the easiest option to pass the ball back to Jupp with loads of time. However he completely switched off and passed it straight to a Cambridge player from which they scored. The next 5-10 mins he really struggled to get back from this costly mistake (although that may have something to do with the number of heads he clashed with, no doubting in his commitment!).
The only slightly negative thing from my personal view is that Howell didn't substitute one of the centre midfielders earlier. We were clearly being streched at 3-1 and although the midfield was being by-passed a lot from Cambridge, the centre pairing in midfield were playing too close to each and obviously tiring, letting the game go past them.
Overall one of the best saints performances I have seen in a long long time and David Howell has my full support! ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!

To save the board getting too cluttered, I moved these posts from AFF's thread into the match thread!

Was happy with they way we played didn't panic when they came back to 2-1 or 3-2 which we would of done last season, didn't expect it to be easy so was happy with the 3 points by any scoreline and would be again Saturday.
I was disappointed with the crowd or lack of it be interesting to see how many turn out on Saturday though.

The first 45 minutes was as good as I have witnessed in a very long while at CP. I have to wonder, though, if it would have been the same result had Bryant buried that very easy chance he had right at start of the game. It was a shocking effort. The 2nd half was certainly more than a little worrying and I think a number of fans were probably having visions of Bedford and Arlesey all over again. There were at least two bad lapses of concentration, with the ball going astray straight to the opposition, on one occasion direct from a free kick. Not good. For me, on the night, Toomey was a class above and easily MOM. His finishing is clinical and endeavour a joy to behold. It would be nice to think we could put him on a contract. The two wide players, Shields and Graham both had excellent games, Graham in particular is very clever and Jupp has done well in both opening games and looks to be continuing his great form of last season. Craig Hammond for Cambridge, I felt, looked very disappointing while he was on. COYS No images allowed -http://i44.tinypic.com/34o7ceq.jpg
