Anyone know what parking is like around Hitchin's ground? Never been up there before but planning a foray tonight.
Cheers

This message from Owsy5 on his twitter account is a bit worrying -
ST ALBANS CITY aim to bounce back tonight at Hitchin. Doubtful starters Gordon, Jupp, Hyde, Watts, Gray, Toomey, Graham, Eadie, Risbridger.

FT Hitchin 0 Saints 2.
Excellent first-half but a laboured second-half.
Three very welcome points though and that's the main thing.

Two great goals and some short (very) patches of nice play. Rest of the game was hoof and hope interpersed with with misplaced passes and poor control. Not surprised really, it was typical of what I saw last year. Methinks it will be a while before I'm tempted to venture down the park this season. The standard of footbal at this level is so poor it's only bearable if you are watching a team that wins easily every week. Good job we won, I might have been a bit grumpy otherwise!

clearly not a true saint then Canary, right? support your team through thick and thin, not only when they're winning, the club needs the fans' backing week in week out IMO

Canary Saint, purchase a satellite dish and a subscription to Sky Sport then you can watch Real Madrid,Barcelona,Arsenal etc. Playing silky skilful football until your heart is content. Down here in the Southern League a lot of the matches are a scrap, and as the manager said after the Banbury game "you have to earn the right to play" i.e. win the scrap, that is the reality. If you had witnessed Saturdays match, when we very easily could have conceded seven or eight goals, you might possibly have realised that tonight wasn't about playing 'good football,it was all about collecting three points. I thought our first half performance was absolutely excellent,we could have quite easily have been four goals ahead by half time, and I was very happy with the second half tactically,I certainly didn't want to see my defenders taking chances in possession,or playing short balls into midfield. Considering we were missing Jupp,Gordon,Hyde and Richard Graham, all of whom I would class as key players, this was a very, very good result.

"my defenders" lonecrank? You must Be Owelsley (sp?). Welcome to the message board! Thanks for coming on. I absolutely agree that this was a great result and a very important 3 points - well done from me - but I have to say that your comment that you didn't want to see your defenders playing short balls into the midfield. Hmnnn. Well that tactic didn't work on Saturday when 90% of the big hoofs forward were comfortably picked up by their defence. It seemed strange to me as, for the previous games this season you had t'lads keep it on the ground thus playing to our strengths in the form of Grahamy and Shieldsy out wide and Haylesy and Lewisy up front. Winners of long balls from the back in the air is not top of their list of abilities. Mind you, what do I know about anything? Did you notice that I added a 'y' to the end of your players' names, Owlseley? That's to let you know that some of us on here know football speak when we see it and to make you feel welcome. We'll happily take the positives from last night, eh. Good luck next Saturday at Arrow. No presssure but we haven't won the FA Cup in 104 years so let's have a go this term.

Having followed the Saints for 50 years including home and away in the Isthmian League Div 2 I think I have as much right as anybody to speak as I find. lonecrank I know what level we are at and the quality of football on offer. I would however like to think that City could play football that would lift us above the 'scrap' situation. Afterall John Mitchell managed it in the eighties.

Canary Saint
I thought the football in the first half wasn't too bad, recognising that we were watching a match in the 7th tier of the English footballing pyramid. Two excellent goals and some periods of trying to play football. Second half was a different story but it was inevitable that Hitchin would give it a go and I thought the defence held up well. For me Ujah was massive considering he had to marshall Diarra (who looked like Bambi on ice at times) as well as cope with the Hitchin strikers. Great three points, well done Saints.
Cheers

Unable to go to game so just two points. After a dismal display I saw on Saturday, no better way to come back than a 2 0 victory away. Credit the players and manager as this shows good spirit. Well done.

We had a spell in the 1st half after the 2nd goal where we played as well as I've seen us play in recent years and should have racked up a couple more
The 2nd half was dull as dishwater, scrappy, long balls etc etc, not sure why, would have been interesting if we'd conceded if we stepped up back up again or carried on playing badly til they'd equalised

And in Jupp, Gordon, Hyde and Graham, we definitely had four extremely important players missing. The latter two also being two of our better passers of the ball as well. It's all well and good talking about pretty football but three points is three points and surely we'll all take that every time regardless of whether the game is a bit of a scrap or not, especially away from home!

Shame i couldn't make it. Missed out on a couple of good goals apparently. Only 3 points off top after last nights games. Think it's going to be really close this season!

Could well be very tight at the top, Minty. I think you're right. Regarding the goals, you can watch them in this video: Two very good goals, for sure!
