A very depressing interview indeed. Castle finishes the interview by commenting on the way this season has panned out: 'I don't think it's the way that a football club of this stature should be run'. I think we all agree with you Mr Castle.

If he did go who would blame him?

Interesting to hear him say we are likely to be relegated next season if there is no sustainability at the club soon.

I think we all agree with you Mr Castle. Spot on, Daedalus. I think we all know, in our heart of hearts, that if something does not happen soon, in respect of a change of ownership of the club, that Steve Castle will go and who could blame him. And if that happens, the players are sure to follow. The way Steve has been treated is a disgrace. It is all very depressing.

Strong rumour last night at Braintree that Castle was coming to Cressing Road - you heard anything?

Wouldn't surprise me to be honest. I can't see Castle staying while Gibson is still at the club. There will be no funds for him to become competitive next season. It'll be kids from the academy and Brazilians from Euroacademy by the sounds of it and not a lot else.

Me! I'll be willing to give it a go. Being serous though, I have no idea who would become manager if Castle leaves.

Strong rumour last night at Braintree that Castle was coming to Cressing Road - you heard anything? Braintree are reducing their playing budget for next season but according to Chairman Harding they remain debt free! That could be quite appealing to Steve Castle after what he has experienced over the last 12 months!

Went to watch our reserves win the league yesterday. Castle one of the favourites I was told, but budget has been cut to 3500 a week - is that enough to challenge?

The Castle link to Braintree is in the St. Albans Review article today. I wouldn't blame him at all for jumping off this sinking ship but obviously I really want him to stay because he seems to be the only hope we have of continuing our survival at this level. I don't think that it will be a simple decision for Castle though. On the one hand, he is clearly a manager who deserves better and who could be working at a top non-League club at this level. For the good of his managerial career, a move might be the most sensible option, as he really needs to be challenging at the top of the table in order to progress as a manager. If he stays here, with Gibson still in charge, we certainly can't offer him that. On the other hand, the setup at the Saints suits him well and he obviously enjoys his role working with the youth academy. One thing is for certain, and that is if he does leave, many of our squad will be heading out with him. It seems pretty clear that many of the players at the club have been playing for him this season and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a mass exodus should Castle leave. That would probably leave us fighting relegation with little hope of survival next season.

It's now two weeks later and no word on Castle's meeting with Gibson. Does anyone know if such a meeting has taken place? In an ideal world, surely Castle would have had a budget agreed by now so that he knows what he is working with next season. I would anticipate that any budget that is agreed will be below a satisfactory level for this division, which means it is even more important to give the manager more time to plan and work his wonders in the player 'market'. I don't know about anyone else but I have long ago given up believing in anything that Gibson says. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to hear that Castle is still waiting to hear from the chairman.

Just seen on the Conf South site that Aveley Manager Rod Stringer has accepted the vacant Manager position at Braintree Town.
So Castle still with us for now.......
