As the mighty Saints have their own Norwegian supporters club, I decided that we really ought to have a Norwegian football thread and perhaps adopt a Norwegian team for a bit of fun! Hopefully, the Norwegian branch might be able to contribute and let us know more about football in their country. I thought it should really have its own thread away from the European football one.
The Norwegian football season has recently kicked off - they have a summer season, of course - and they are about 7 games into the season. As I understand it, Rosenborg (who are one of the most famous Norwegian teams) are one of the major favourites for the title.

Our friends in Norway support the following sides:
- Vålerenga at the top level (last won the title in 2005).
- Lyn who are a 2nd level (recently relegated from the top division) - apparently there is a small table flag or something hanging in the St. Albans City clubhouse as a token of friendship between the clubs.
- Skeid who are a third level team.
- And Brevik IL who play at the fourth level.
I understand that they are all Oslo based teams apart from Brevik.
The season in Norway kicked off in March and continues until November time. Rosenborg are the current holders of the title, although their domination has not been as good as in the 90s and early 00s when they won 13 consecutive titles. In recent years, Brann and Stabæk, have won the league.
Out of the Norwegian branch sides:
- Vålerenga last won the title in 2005 and are one of the bigger clubs, I think. They play in blue, red and white. Lyn are one one of their rivals. Apparently, Vålerenga used to represent more of the working class, while Lyn represented more of the upper and middle classes in Oslo.
- FK Lyn were relegated last year. They have had a poor start at the second level this season and currently occupy a relegation spot. They play in red, white and blue.
- Skeid play in blue and red. They were relegated from the second level and now play in the third level. They apparently have a reputation for producing great young players.
- I couldn't find out much about Brevik apart from the fact that it seems to be a very small town outside Oslo.
Unfortunately, the Norwegian national team did not qualify for the World Cup.
