Published on the official website today:
If anyone read the newspapers lately and one in particular, you would think that the club is in complete and utter turmoil. This is obviously winding people up and while there is an old adage that you shouldn’t believe all that you read in the newspapers, it would appear that some people are doing just that.
Last season the club was near to a play off position until early March and though we tailed off, our final position was still respectable. Our Youth Team did brilliantly in The FA Youth Cup. We obtained more major sponsorship last year than we had for many years which is again contrary to newspaper reports. All positive news
Currently, we are looking to announce new sponsors in the near future and also hopefully four pre season friendlies which should give the club some decent income. Contrary again to reports trying to create speculation and newsworthy stories, Steve Castle has announced that he is staying at the club and had no intention of leaving. Steve in turn is negotiating to get some of our players under contract for next year. It has also been announced that our reserve team will play on a Saturday next year in the Spartan League because this will attract better players and give more games. This season was not exactly great for the reserves, as they often went for weeks without a game because the league only had circa 10 teams involved, thus giving too few games and virtually none for weeks in the winter.
Again all positive news.
The Board of Directors would like to make it clear that we do have a plan for the future and I am but one of those Board Members. That plan is to improve the club in all aspects and whilst we are not secretive about those plans and whilst we note also that people are currently crying out for transparency, it would appear that as soon as any information is released, then it is the subject of disparaging remarks which in some cases are untruthful or down right mischievous.
There has been no offer for the club and suggested figures of £100,000 in February and £100,000 in the summer are completely untrue. Please remember that Lee Harding sold the club for £1 to William Verry !! If such an offer was made then clearly it would have been in writing and I would welcome a copy if it existed.
There has also been mention of Euro Academy recently. This is a new company designed to bring young players to this country from abroad and it has not even commenced trading. Daniel Manzi would dearly like this company to succeed and in the meanwhile he has been appointed as a Director of St Albans City FC. Daniel also coaches the under 18’s at Barnet FC under Paul Fairclough and I wonder therefore what all the fuss is about. I fully understand that some people are quite deliberately causing trouble and are trying to relate all of this to the Carlos Tevez situation but has anyone noticed our team full of Brazilians or Argentinean players ? The whole subject is hardly worthy of further comment.
Much has also be written or stirred up about spiralling debts. The figures reported in one local newspaper are incorrect and in any event are hardly news worthy when considering the massive debts that have burdened other clubs. I also note that we were due to be the victims of The Inland Revenue’s displeasure last week and I can assure that no Winding Up Notice has been issued and I am not aware that any such threat existed, as was widely and incorrectly suggested. I would confirm that Nick Archer has been in discussion with the Inland Revenue and agreement on the actual figures has now been reached, as this in fact was always the problem.
With regard to the cuts in playing budget towards the end of the season, may I confirm that these unfortunately were absolutely essential because the budget had already been overspent earlier, due to the amount of loan players which cost money but did not appear on the regular wage bill. This issue has made me personally the victim of much abuse but once again those criticising in mischievous fashion are doing so without a real understanding of the facts.
May I therefore in conclusion, confirm that the Club would like to move forward in a positive fashion and we would like to engage with as many local organisations as possible to achieve our aims. In the meanwhile, if anyone would like to sponsor the club then please make yourselves known and likewise, we would appreciate some help on match days next year with our new reserve side and again if anyone is interested in the position of match day secretary or physio, then please contact the club.
Finally, may I confirm that we all want the club to succeed and to move forward and I would ask for your support on behalf of The Board of Directors, in order that we can all achieve our aims in preferably a positive manner.
Regards
John Gibson
