Sounds like a very useful win today. Shame about the sending off. Big delay for the linesman injury - what was it for? Glad Frendo on the scoresheet and glad my prediction was wrong!

It looked like some form of lower leg injury, he had to be helped across the pitch by the trainer and Joe Welch.

A good win and up to 8th. A great start and if it had not been for 2 quite outstanding saves from the Bath keeper early on, Frendo could have bagged a hat trick and we would have been 3 up and out of sight. A very different and nervy 2nd half, especially for the last 30, after the Gorman sending off, when we were under severe pressure at times and were forced to defend in numbers. We need to sort this indiscipline out - 3 reds in 5 games is totally unacceptable. Good performances today from Comley, Gayle and Beckles .

On the disciplinary front - do players pay their own fines? If not, they ought to.

A great start and a super finish from John Frendo. That was the Frendo of old and, as Boomer says, he could have had another couple in the opening quarter of an hour.
It was a good first half and although Bath were quite pacy up front I thought Gayle was superb and Martin was back to something approaching his best. Similarly, Beckles looked very good and Gorman was industrious.
The sending off was just a poor challenge trying to get the ball back under control, no more than that. He lunged in, missed the ball and caught the man. It was a bad one but in terms of discipline it was, I think, a genuine attempt to get the ball, rather than a petulant kick out (Wales - which I completely missed) or frustration getting the better of him (Chappell).
The delay was not ideal but it probably disrupted Bath's flow more than ours. We changed the front three and were looking for the ball over the top. The new fella from Stevenage, Cameron Lancaster, looked quite quick. I felt a bit sorry for Nouble because what he did was good. He held the ball up well, linked up quite nicely, but you could tell he'd have been happier further forward and in the middle rather than in a wide position.
All in all, a very welcome three points, particularly the way the team worked together, defended as a group and tried to hit on the break once they were down to 10. It was certainly good to be celebrating a win as the feeling disappeared from my fingers and toes.
Finally, the crowd, which was announced as 448 - only nine fewer than the Wealdstone game last week.
My Wealdstone-supporting friend tells me that their chairman told him that he rang Mr Archer after Saturday's game and Mr Archer said there'd been a misunderstanding and that the crowd was 80 more than initially declared. I've not seen the crowd revised anywhere. Has anyone else?
Either way, I think today's crowd pretty much proves the case against. Whatever the implications of this matter for St Albans City's reputation with another club, I just trust that the correct figure is declared (whatever that may be) when it comes to VAT and so on.

Sounds like they played much better today - even allowing for the sending off. The next 2 league games away to Bromley and Sutton will be tough. However, 3 x 1-0 wins in last 4 league games give cause for some optimism - and recentcovert's report on Frendo's performance + others. I think it's only the second time that we've ever beaten Bath in a league game as well.

What a great win! We were at them from the off and, as said by others, Frendo could and should have had a hat-trick inside the first 20 minutes but for two excellent saves by the Bath keeper. In the first half I thought Comley was magnificent and Nouble was awful. I've seen Nouble play well for us and I hope to see him play well for us again but I was surprised he came out for the second half and wasn't surprised he was first off. I see he's tweeted that it wasn't one of his best days. That's fine, all players have them so it's positive that he knows it wasn't going right for him. Ben Martin had a great game, and if each of us has to take turns to have a fight with him on Twitter before every game for the rest of the season it will be worth it! In the second half we looked confused, especially after the sending off. From where I was standing it was a clear red card, about as near to the definition of "using excessive force" as you can get and if that had been a tackle on Comley I'd have been screaming for retribution. From then on, it looked as if we were trying to see out the game at 1-0 and we started making silly mistakes. From the incident that saw Comley booked (for a free-kick we won? - or did I miss something..), Corcoran was on the touch-line looking along the line and was offside for all the time it took to take the kick. How can a player have so much positional information to work with and still make the most basic mistake? We had a corner late on and tried to keep it in the corner but there was at least 4 mins left by my calculations so why were we trying to play keep-ball there? However, despite some moans, it was a great overall performance, one of the better ones I've seen this season - especially from the defence - and showed all the fight that I felt we had been missing over the recent months. If things had gone our way we could have won by four or more goals. After the disappointments of recent months I'll take three points and a Frendo goal. It was such a good afternoon I didn't even care that the Clarence Park gates were locked at 4.30pm!

A workmanlike and welcomed result and performance. Two not great teams but we won and that's all that matters. Much better performance from us when compared to the one at vs bath. They looked a shadow of the team who gunned us down at theirs.anyone can beat anyone. Not a league to gave a bet in.and we are in 8th place. What a division! Big fames coming up that will determine how our season pans out. Coys

Very pleased with yesterday's performance - shows that defensively we can hold our own with our improved line up at the back. We limited Bath to very few decent chances even when we were down to 10 men. Some tough games coming up but very hard to make decent predictions in this league (after Farnborough's recently improved performance I would never have expected them to lose 7-0 yesterday - and having watched the 12 minutes of highlights, Concord Rangers should have reached a double figure score!).

Great to see Frendo get on the scoresheet again hopefully this will get the goal machine running again especially with the new signing who looks promising, I thought Def Com 1 had a very good game and of course the defending with 10 men was superb.
Three 1-0 wins in the last 4 matches (league) is promising too.
I saw Dave Tavener gave JK the Man of the Match in the NLP report, anyone see JJ clear of the line for Gateshead against a very spirited Warrington who had fantastic support.

The bad news is Charlie Gorman and Steve Wales will miss the last 3 games of the year Bromley (A), Hemel (H) and Sutton (A)
The good news is Lee Chappell will be back for those same 3 games.

As I said on the Ben Martin thread - time to be together as a club and putting a stop to whingeing and 'in-fighting'.

St Albans City boss James Gray receives response he wanted against Bath City after Wealdstone defeatby Simon Mail St Albans City joint manager James Gray admitted he got exactly the response he wanted from his side after their worst display of the season. The Saints slumped to a 3-0 FA Trophy defeat at Wealdstone last Tuesday but bounced back with a 1-0 home win over Bath City in the Conference South on Saturday. Gray said: “It was just the reaction that we wanted after our worst performance of the season. The spirit in the camp is good again and it’s never easy after you’ve just been beaten 3-0. “To come back again like this puts us in a nice position in the league and you just never know what could happen. “It was a good reaction from the players and it’s exactly what we asked from them before the game. The boys all put in a good shift. Against Wealdstone we were a bit short in terms of players but we fell apart and just didn’t perform. “But we managed to put it right on Saturday and I would have taken three points in the league over a cup run if I had to choose one or the other.” John Frendo netted his first league goal from open play at Clarence Park since August after two minutes. The striker pounced after a poor header from Phil Walsh and volleyed the ball past Jason Mellor for the winner. Gray said: “I’m pleased for John because it’s been a barren spell but he looked like he got his confidence back on Saturday. I questioned him against Wealdstone but he played really well and was unfortunate not to get a hat-trick. He got his goal and he’s a big player for us so hopefully this can start a run for him.” Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Cameron Lancaster signed Conference South forms with the Saints on Friday and made his debut from off the bench against Bath. The 22-year-old, who spent time with Stevenage earlier this season, made one Premier League appearance during his spell with Spurs. Gray said: “Cameron came on and we think he could be the ideal partner for John. He has good pedigree and he could be a real asset for us. Cameron is quite quick and goes in behind the defence so this should complements the way John plays.” The Saints finished the match with ten men after Charlie Gorman was sent off for a late challenge on Dan Ball, which will rule him out for three games. Gray said: “The referee said it was for excessive force and we can’t really have any complaints. Charlie is a whole-hearted player but he just mis-timed his challenge.” City are not in action this weekend due to their exit from the FA Trophy but their manager believes the break will serve his players well in the run-up to Christmas. Gray said: “It will give us the chance to give the team a rest and get other players fit. The lads can have a break and come back refreshed to go again. “It is always a busy festive period so it should do them good and I think it could help us over the coming weeks.” www.stalbansreview.co.uk/sport/11654748._It_was_just_the_reaction_we_wanted_/?ref=rss
