It seems after a dreadful season for Liverpool, it could get worse this summer.
Rumours are rife that Benitez has been offered a way out the club by the board and could be out by the weekend.
Steven Gerrard is the target of new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho with a £25m bid apparently put forward by Real to Liverpool. Another midfield man, Mascherano has been linked with a move out of Anfield for many weeks now as he has expressed his want to leave Liverpool and move to Spain. While Talisman Torres has been subject to much talk about his future, even though he has declared he would like to say at Anfield, teams such as Man City and Chelsea are linning up huge bids for the forward, upwards of £50m, if a bid like this came in, could Liverpool refuse?
So, a tough summer ahead it looks for Liverpool.

I'm probably the only one but I actually quite like Benitez so I hope he stays at Liverpool.
I wouldn't be surprised if he left though but I imagine that whole squad would disintegrate. I imagine Torres would be off and it wouldn't surprise me to see Gerrard leaving either. A move to Spain would make sense for Gerrard because he could leave without really souring his relationship with the Liverpool fans (as he would if he moved to another club in England). He's getting older now and obviously wants to win some more trophies before he hangs up his boots. In the short-term, he probably doesn't have that opportunity at Liverpool right now.

So Rafa has definitely gone: www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jun/03/rafael-benitez-leaves-liverpoolGot to wonder where it all went wrong for him. He won that European Cup in 2005 with Houllier's team which I would say was pretty remarkable in itself as that was a very poor side with the likes of Djimi Traore and Igor Biscan as first teamers! At Valencia, Benitez was Spanish Champion and also won the UEFA Cup. He won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, then took them to the final again in 2007 and the semis in 2008. Then last season, he took them to their best league finish since 2002. Just look at that record. I personally don't think you become a bad manager over night. There have been a lot of questions raised over his transfer policy and his motivational skills but I think the main reason for his demise is that he has been hampered by the situation at his football club. Unrest and general dissatisfaction has spread amongst his squad last season and morale has been low, which ultimately has stemmed from the situation at the club. I think given time and a bit of stability in the background, he might have been able to sort them out. I'm never sure that sacking the manager is the answer personally. Anyway, who will replace him? Would genuinely like to see Roy Hodgson get a shot with a big club in what would almost certainly be his last managerial post considering his age. Would he take it though? It's a poisoned chalice really, isn't it?

The odds on the new managers:
Martin O’Neil 9/4 Roy Hodgson 5/2 Jurgen Klinsmann 6/1 Kenny Dalglish 3/1 Gus Hiddink 8/1 Sammy Lee 14/1 Laurent Blanc 20/1 Mark Hughes 16/1

It's a bit of a sorry list really isn't it? And apparently Rafa is attracting the interest of Inter.
Seems to me that Liverpool have just sacked a manager who can attract a world class club and they're about to replace him with who? Jurgen Klinsmann or Sammy Lee! ;D
I can't imagine why Gus Hiddink would want it. Mark Hughes is never going to be allowed anywhere near Anfield. Pretty sure Kenny Dalglish said he wouldn't want to go back into full-time management.
Roy Hodgson has actually said he wants to stay at Fulham, hasn't he? And he is actually someone you would take at their word.
Martin O'Neil seems most likely but will Liverpool actually be better off with him rather than Rafa?

A lot of the talk at the moment is about Kenny Dalglish and another former Liverpool legend taking over the role till the sale of the club has gone through. Dalglish already plays are a part in the club and many seem to think he will become temporary manager.
Will Martin O'Neil want to leave what a great job he is doing at Villa?
Another name in the hat is that of former Real Madrid manager Manuel Pellegrini, who was sacked only a few weeks ago to make room for Jose Mourinho.

I still think that it's a great gesture. Not many managers or players would do something like this and the figure is also very significant to the Hillsborough Family Support Group.

Dear Self Pity City Victims
Would you rather have a) £96K as it's a significant number b) £4M
Regards Rafa, currently unemployed but expects to be in work again on the same money next week

So? He could have snaked off without anything given to the Support Group. He wasn't forced into doing anything, it is a kind gesture, whatever the amount.

I'm curious. How do we all feel that Roy Hodgson's Liverpool will do this season?
I can see them having a good season under him. It seems as if he has brought a little bit of the 'feel good' factor back to Anfield. He has a real challenge on his hands, no doubt, but I can see him coping with the pressures and surprising a few people by getting the most out of his limited resources. I can certainly see a top four finish on the horizon for Liverpool again.
