Went to see Watford v Hull game at the Park tonight. I enjoyed the game but one thing I noticed was that there were at least 3 paid 'security guards'. I understand the club has limited freedom in this regard but it is completely ridiculous. As far as I could tell their were no hull fans (so 0 possibility of tension between rival supporters) and I guess their was about 200 total spectators- just a guess- so hardly a need for them to manage problems relating to sheer weight of numbers. Is there no way the club could appeal to relevant authorities (council/police?) to ask for degree of flexibility in how they handle security requirements. We seem spend serious money on security for games were the chances of trouble are negligible and were gates are likely to be modest.

Some volunteers are going to obtain the relevant qualifications to act as match day security (saving the club money) - if anyone else is interested in doing this, do contact the club.

As this was a Premier League U21 game, do the competition rules require security to be available in the stadium ? Would costs of security not be covered by any fee we receive from Watford for hosting the game ? ( Assuming we receive a fee )

I can't imagine we would be paying for security guards, unless it was a strict requirement of the terms of the agreement. In fact, the more I think about it, we certainly wouldn't.

we seemed to provide all the necessary staff (other than accouncer)- normal people on turnstiles etc. No idea if Watford paid a flat fee or were billed for each item individually - if former than surely be in the club interest in minimise costs
