0-3 and still nine minutes to play.
I bottled it largely because of the weather and the admission fee rather than the prospect of being beaten. I felt bad because it's the first home game I've missed when I've been able to go for more than two years. (Herts Senior Cup rip-off last season not withstanding!)
Perhaps I should change my name to FairWeatherConvert?
Anyway, it sounds like changes were made – Crawford and Theo up front in a 4-4-2, Comley back in midfield and Locke in at the back but no improvement in the results.
By the sounds of the Herts Ad Twitter updates we started well but didn't get the opening goal and then it sounds like it was steadily downhill from there.
I hope the club grasps the severity of the situation soon. I don't know what can be done but something really needs to change.
What's Ian Allinson up to? Or is it too soon for that?

Thanks Minty.
Sow pulls one back – 1-3.
I don't particularly like suggesting a change of manager but how much longer can we go on like this?

Very difficult for the owners I would imagine. They have backed the managers to bring in some relatively costly and supposedly good players, but it is just not working. So, do you change the managers or tell them to change the players ? They will, rightly, feel loyal to Gray and Golds but how long can they wait, The New Year ? but we might only have 17/18 points by then.
Maybe we will beat Lowestoft and Margate and everything will look rosy, however, we then face Maidenhead who are very useful and might well put a few past us.

The chairman set the target of 20 points from the first 10 games, so perhaps he should go!
Seriously, it's a real conundrum for the owners. Changing the team yet again might well be more costly than changing the manager(s).
Could a different manager get more out of them? It's been known that a new face, a new voice and some different ideas can bring about a change in fortunes.
What's are the alternatives? Stick as we are and keep our fingers crossed they pull it round? Or cut the most expensive players in the squad and go down?

Get the tactics and motivation right and those players we have should be more than capable of getting results - but that might need a change in management. As you say, sometimes a new voice does make all the difference

With only 250 people supporting us we might be on the way to the Southern League Central in due course and numerous local derbies with Potters Bar,Kings Langley, London Colney, etc. with the odd trip to Trumpton and Camberwick Green.
We need to wake up fast, we are sleep walking through this, and make some serious changes.

Stick as we are and keep our fingers crossed they pull it round? Or cut the most expensive players in the squad and go down? Your first sentence is a very good point: would a new manager see any significant change? While your second clause is accurate, its also been known that a new face, new voice and the inevitable new players can make not a jot of difference to a club's position in the table. Who can tell if any replacement will halt the slide? Maybe at this level is it cheaper to change the players than to change the manager - I really don't know the answer to that. What I do know is that I've seen literally hundreds if not thousands of managers sacked in the game during my lifetime and I would hazard a guess that most of them ultimately failed to halt the slide. Eg Oldham aren't doing much better now that David Dunn has been appointed permanently than they were under Darren Kelly: Kelly was sacked after a 5-1 home defeat in early September and Oldham lost 5-2 at home last night. The second line I've quoted is always my first question in these situations. The fans will always call for a manager to be replaced when times are difficult yet they rarely know of any available alternative. Is Alan Devonshire free? What about Jamie Day, Glen Alzapiedi or a host of other names from the non-league game. Better the devil you know?

It's not even a question in my mind. We can't say we've had a bad start as its now nearly xmas and we've nearly played half our games.
Other than lumping long balls and feeding off scraps I can't see any other tactics. We are even still peservering with the long throw! When did that last work?
They should've been gone after the shambles on Saturday.
The situation was summed pretty well for me last night when were 2-0 down looking for a way back in to the game and they take off our most dangerous attacking threat and bring on a defensive midfielder.
They have got to go before it gets any worse.

It's easy to call for the manager/ coach to go. But, for me, the bigger question is who do we attract and how? Look at the team, look at the limitations of Clarence Park and the lack of any momentum for an alternative, despite the best efforts of the current owners. We need someone to take it on for the long term and really build something. I doubt if we can parachute someone in to sort it out as Sunderland are trying with Big Sam.

For what's it worth I thought we didn't play too badly for a lot of the game. We created plenty of chances, specially during the opening spell of the first half and were a little unlucky to come in 0-1 down at half time, particularly as it seemed to me that the goalscorer was a shade offside. The second goal was also rather (un)fortunate as it took a huge deflection. Our biggest problem, as has already been stated, is a lack of goals but putting this right is easier said than done and I am not sure whether a change of management at this stage will necessarily remedy this.

I was there last night and I have been critical of the defence before, but what chance did they have with no protection from midfield , and forwards who are unable to hold the ball up. The back four must have felt like they were at THE ALAMO instead of Clarence Park. Also I have no idea where our next goal is going to come from ?
Anyway lets be positive about Saturday and with that confidence to march onwards and upwards !!!

Alf, here is a précis of the last two interviews for you :- Weston - "we were the better team in the second half". Gosport - " we were the better team"
During that two and a quarter hours of football we scored two goals and the opposition scored SEVEN.
You may draw your own conclusions.

I'm all for looking for the positives in every performance but there does seem to be an avoidance of the issue here. Perhaps it's different behind closed doors and perhaps Jimmy recognises how low on confidence the players are so he's avoiding making it worse by being hard on them in public, but it doesn't feel like the club is grasping the fact that we seem to be sleepwalking our way towards relegation unless we are very careful.
The better team doesn't lose 1-4 to the second bottom side.
We've been conceding goals at an alarming rate and have only scored more than once in two of our league games this season.
More of a worry is the gap between us and safety positions. We could win against Margate and Maidenhead and still find ourselves in the bottom three, that's how bleak it is.
We need a turn-around in fortunes and a sustained run where we pick up points starting as soon as possible.
Maybe a win or two in the Trophy will boost confidence... although I said that about the FA Cup!
