The Saints travel the short distace to Vauxhall Road this Saturday to play neighbours Hemel Hempstead Town in their final pre-season fixture.
Steve Castle has already said he will most likely start with the XI that will also start against Thurrock to help get the team use to it "That's a common sense approach without having put all my cards on the table. We’re still looking at people but if we can get that we need to have a formation and a team that we’re happy with to go against Thurrock."
But Castle will proabably still give plenty of time to those trialists which he wants to see more of and those that have impressed him in pre-season "We're trying people out and there are a few trialists there and every single one of them has done themselves justice. From our perspective whatever team we're playing against I've seen an awful lot of positives."
Hemel where relegated from the Southern premier League last season but were reprieved and will therefore be playing in the same league (But under a different name!) the Zamaretto League Premier division this season.
Kick off is the usual 3pm kick off for a Saturday match, ticket prices are Adults £6, Concessions £3 and Children £1

Hemel beat Wealdstone 3-1 on Thursday in another pre-season game, they were 0-1 down at one point during the match.

Hemel Hempstead Town 1 (1) Saints 0 (0)
O.g. in the 4th minute. Pretty grim by all accounts. Two players went off with injuries, although, if the past is anything to go by, I would say it is asking for trouble playing a PSF at Hemel.

Oh dear, any news on the Saints team? Such a contrast from a good performance agaisnt Crawley and now to a loss to Hemel, but oh well, it's only pre-season.

I wasn't at the game, Saint, but from what I can make out, it was Ryan Frater and Peter Smith who went off with the injuries. Bazza played and apparently Rob Magwood had a good game as did whoever was playing right mid. Punchless up front but what else is new? That's about all the info I have. Doubtless, there will be a report on line in the Review tonight.

Thanks for the info though Boomer, I appreciate it and I'm sure the other Saints fans do aswell.
It's not good if Frater and Smith have serious injuries, if they do, we may have to pay the price for Ben Martin. As you say, nothing up-front isn't exactly new, but oh well, we will see how we can do when the season starts next Saturday.

Thanks, Saint. I suspected you were alluding to this article in the Review a couple or so weeks ago -
St Albans City's hopes of bringing Ben Martin back to the club hang in the balance.
The former player of the season left the club to join Chelmsford last summer but was recently released. He is keen to return but the defender's wages could prove a stumbling block due to the Saints' minimal playing budget.
Manager Steve Castle has spoken to Martin but is understood to have doubts about whether the Saints can afford to take him on.
I'm very puzzled who feeds this information to the local papers because from what I understand (from a very good source), it is totally inaccurate. Ben is not looking for huge money at all and wants to play locally. I cannot believe it is Steve Castle imparting that information so it doesn't leave too many alternatives, does it? You can make your own mind up.

Yes, but is it really Castle saying that, who knows? Maybe we will see Ben at CP again, but, it doesn't seem the defence is the problem at the moment, it's up-front (If you don't include possible injuries) But then, it would be good to have Frater and Martin playing together allowing Peters to get on with his coaching duites.

Not good today.
On the subject of Ben Martin, I'll be hugely disappointed if he isn't signed up for this season, as I'm sure we all will. By all accounts, it sounds as if we are being fed rubbish through the local press. We all know that Ben is a local lad who wants to play for us. I just hope it gets sorted, although it sounds unlikely right now.
