Trust members look to the future
Saints City Trust members voted to focus on the future at a special general meeting held on 16th March.
The meeting was called by The Trust’s acting Board after public criticism by St Albans City’s directors of its motives in not wanting to make an unconditional payment of £6,000 towards debts and running costs while the club moves from an ‘open cheque book’ to a more constrained approach.
Trust members were invited to choose between the £6,000 payment requested by the club and a second proposal recommended by the acting Board to provide £4,000 for specific items that will directly contribute to the club’s sustainability and from which Trust members and other fans will also benefit.
These items include improvements to the facilities at Clarence Park to allow the club to maintain its place in the Blue Square Conference South League.
When a vote was taken, 10 members voted in favour of the club’s request, while 56 voted for the acting Board’s recommendation; there was one abstention.
During the meeting, it was confirmed that an investor in the club had offered to match a £6,000 contribution by The Trust, which has itself paid c £3,300 to the club this season as part of a matchday revenue share agreement, together with £1,300 for coaches used by the team, £400 for sundry matchday items and has arranged other donations and in-kind assistance of £1,400.
The Trust’s acting Chair Laura Graham said, "We clearly have members' broad agreement for the approach being taken. I hope that the club will now acknowledge this and work with us on appropriate ways for The Trust to add value in these challenging times".
