Good move, clean break and hopefully some football to be played, I think we can show a debt of gratitude for last season but it's the seasons previous to this where he really showed his lack of talent as a manager but all the best anyway

I think you have to give a lot of credit to Castle for conducting himself in the way that he has during desperate times. Also, we need to give thanks for the hard work he put in to steady a sinking ship for a couple of seasons until last year's relegation. I wish him the best of luck for the future.
At the end of the day, I think it's probably for the best. A fresh start all round. Best to get a new manager in now and sort things out before the start of the season, rather than doing it during the season if things were to go the wrong way.
I suspect Ian Ridley will have someone in mind if he has taken this decision. Maybe someone from his long list of contacts in the game?

Just like to say thankyou to Steve for sticking with the club during this very hard time and trying to keep some stability around the club.
This is a very positive move in my oppinion, and it means more things to look forward to not just over this coming pre-season, but over the whole campaign!
Hopefully Ridley and the owners find someone with the football knowledge, experience and touch to lead us back to where we deserve to be!

Some of the best players we have seen recently were Castle signings. That said some of the worst football was his as well. Unfortunately he was just a little too tarnished by the Gibson regime. Also his best moments were in adversity, not pushing for honours. Lippiat effectively took the same team to the conference. Certainly did as much as he could last season, with few resources and instability off the field. Always conducted himself with dignity. Best of luck for the future Steve.

Clean break from the Gibson era is the right thing to do.
Respect to Castle for the way he handled himself last season and tried to keep things together under the most trying of circumstances.
Time to move on with a new manager and new team at the start of a new season.

Agree with the tone of all posts above. SC deserves our thanks for his efforts in trying circumstances last season, but I think it correct that the new broom is brandished without nostalgia. Good luck to Steve, and good luck to the club in searching out a replacement - the post needs filling soon and I agree with D above in that there's probably a short list in Ian Ridley's mind.

I know he has involved with Ridley at the Muff but would he give up his lucrative TV Pundit employment ? Can't see it myself.

Is there many managers unemployed out there with the quality saints deserve and need? Gary Roberts still my tip, Steve Bateman?

I 100% know one person in the running for the job as manager. He has spoken to Ridley and has an interview on the cards. He is an ex professional, played for some very high profile clubs in England, a very classy player, somewhat a legend, currently in his 50s. If he gets the job, you will see who I mean. He will get City playing quality football if the job is his.

Under the New Manager thread - he couldn't 'Hazzard' a guess. Could just be something of nothing though
