Good appointment this. He nearly got Harrow Borough promoted last season on a small budget and he's been around the non-league game as a player and manager for 30 odd years. Believe he was captain of the England Semi-pro team when he was at Barnet.
Good luck to him.

A very sensible appointment IMO, just the kind of manager needed right now!

Harrow Borough's stats since 2004 are as follows: 04/05 - 16th 05/06 - 5th 06/07 - 19th 07/08 - 16th 08/09 - 14th 09/10 - 14th 10/11 - 5th Must be honest those numbers do not exactly get my blood racing. Just how small is Harrow Borough's budget? I also suspect that the better players at this level have not actually played for him so will his contacts (player-wise) actually be any good. I personally would not welcome the wholesale import of ex Harrow Borough players. Still must keep an open mind - I will not start despairing until at least October if we are in the bottom half of the table.

I have to agree with Canary Saint, but I trust Ridley's judgement so I know there will be very good reasoning behind this appointment - I hope he has a lot of contacts and can get us playing good football again!

Sounds like a good appointment to me at this level only went out to Tonbridge in the play offs tries to play good attacking football i hear and Harrow were also top scorers in the league last season.

David Howell used to live in St.Albans, in the late 1980's i believe....
I am sure he is a good manager but has he got the ambition to get the club going forward on the playing side ? Staying so long at Harrow seems odd to me. He is clearly not short of loyalty and that is a good quality, mostly.

I think we can trust Ridley on this kind of thing, they made a point when first taking over about the style of play which I think also contributed to the departure of Castle, if he can being in the kind of football we saw under managers like Lippiatt then it's already welcome
The above league positions may be a bit worrying, apart from last years, but we all know that money swills round that Ryman League and Harrow were probably one of the lowest supported clubs and therefore had a low budget so some of them positions should probably be applauded
We all know Ridley knows his stuff so, unlike Gibson with his blind loyalty to Castle, if it doesn't work out I'm sure he'll be man enough to make changes
Welcome David
