THE FINAL WORD - written by Saint (Jake Ellacott)How did the Saints get on against Stourbridge? The Saints slumped to 2-1 defeat away at 3rd placed side Stourbridge last Saturday. City opened the scoring with just 10 minutes gone on the clock, when Rob Haworth headed home from a Barrie Matthews corner. The rest of the first half lacked much goal mouth action. However, Stourbridge ended the half strongly and almost made the Saints pay. City managed to hold on until the interval. After the break, the Glassboys had most of the play and got themselves on equal terms in the 62nd minute when Rowe stabbed home. Six minutes later, it was 2-1 to Stourbridge when Rowe grabbed his second of the game. The Saints failed to threaten a come back, and the Midlands' side saw out the game rather easily. What does David Howell say about the FA cup tie on Saturday?Howell has said that if City want to win the upcoming FA Cup tie, they will need to match the passion and commitment shown from their opponents. He stated that these one off matches are all about who wants it more, and the team that does will be the one that comes out with the victory and a passage through to the next round. Howell was speaking to the St Albans & Harpenden Review. You can read this interview by clicking here. How did East Thurrock do in their last game? The Rocks lost 3-1 at home to Ryman Premier League leaders Lowestoft Town on Tuesday evening. Despite opening the scoring with just 3 minutes gone, East Thurrock were soon pegged back, and the gulf in class between the two sides started to show. The result left the Rocks in 17th place, with 8 points from 9 games. In the last round of the Cup, the Rocks beat Southern Premier League side Bedford Town 1-0 at Rookery Hill, courtesy of a Petrit Elbi header. A big warning to the Saints that they will need to be at their best on Saturday to get a result in this cup tie. Finally:Will the Rocks be broken down by the Saints? Or will the home side end City's FA Cup run for another season? Get involved in the pre- and post-match discussion in thread below. COYS! The City Archives - A Special Edition![/u]
We have a new feature to place alongside our previews this season, as one of Saints Chat's regular posters, Brummie, delves into the history books to provide us with match reports from the past. This gives a chance to walk down memory lane, or learn a little about City's past, before the next match in the present!
As we have never played East Thurrock United, Brummie has given us something a little different which will be of major interest to all Saints fans. He has reproduced two notices as they appeared in the Herts Ad regarding the foundation of the first St. Albans club in 1881 and the present one in 1908. Over to Brummie for the details!
Thanks, as always, go to Brummie for delving into the City Archives to provide us with an interesting read alongside our usual match previews!

2-1. Matthews scores a pen.
Number 8 is Matthews, not Magwood as I typed above.

So far so good - though it sounds as if the defence is still a bit iffy.

Yes Saint, looks like it!
Spoke to someone at the match today and they said that the Saints really ought to have won it this afternoon. City were 3-1 up and cruising at one point.
The rest of verdict was not good. The Saints can't seem to close games out and get the result. Also City can't seem to keep defensive errors out of their game.
East Thurrock stuck together and played as a team. The Saints, however... well the less said, the better, apparently. Lack of leadership on the pitch seems perhaps to be an issue.
Jerome Walker was MoM for the Saints in the opinion of my friend at the match.
Let's hope Howell gets it right for the replay!

We've played East Thurrock before in a preseason friendly about 10 years ago. I can't remember the result. Sorry Aries I forgot about that one. Don't think I have the report anyway. Never mind. I thought I would put a couple of bits of St Albans club history on instead. Previous club and the present club. Had we played Bedford Town on Tuesday I would have copied the match report of our historic 5-4 win against them. I'll save that one for the rearranged match.

Yeah like Lowestoft we went 1 down and then went 3-1 up but unlike them didn't close it out and let them come back to 3-3, i was told even at 3-3 we had numerous chances to win the game let's hope we can do the job back at Home.
Attendance anybody ?
P.s were we waiting to see if there was going to be a replay before releasing the new fixtures poster ?

Finished the stronger over the last twenty mins, but I thought the defending was at times shambolic, liked the left back but the Frank Bruno impersonator at centre half worries me,with his size he should be dominating the aerial battles, but he hardly won a header.Hopeful we should have enough firepower in the replay.

Probably won't do the new posters until we know the cup draw
I was just looking at my fixture diary and the FA Cup and FA Trophy are played in alternate weeks for virtually every week until mid-December In fact if we were to make the FA Cup 2nd Round and FA trophy 1st Round we'd only play this Saturdays gane v Arlsley and the Brackley game in November on Saturdays
