I can't see East Thurrock beating us in the replay but we really need to start taking more of our chances!

In fact if we were to make the FA Cup 2nd Round and FA trophy 1st Round we'd only play this Saturdays game v Arlesey and the Brackley game in November on Saturdays Jesus still i suppose the club wouldn't mind too much with the prize money it would bring in !

I ventured east on Saturday. A pleasant surprise. East Thurrock is not in Thurrock at all, which helps (More south a bit from Basildon). An ice cold beer before kick off was irresistible. Those at the match will vouch for the fact that the heat was intense, not good for football at all.
After falling being early on (goalie possibly at fault) we fought back well. But at 3-1 up we let them back into the game, inexcusable against a lower division side. Stronger opposition will take more advantage of our defensive failings.
But, we live to fight another day in the cup. Have to be meaner in defence and midfield to my untrained eye. Old Trafford 3rd round here we come (?)

malco, spot on with your analysis of the match.I am a newbie (exciled since the dizzy heights of the conference)and don't know the players but think it will take six months or so for Howell to get things sorted.Moran and the left back looked okay and Walker even though very raw was a constant threat.Hopefully we can get through on Tuesday as I think the draw has been kind to us.

Malco, You must accept that The Saints are now a step three club, in the Southern League, Premier division; level with the Isthmian Premier and the Northern Premier.
In approx eighteenth place in the Isthmian Prem you'll find East Thurrock Utd, so it puts us on about level footing with Tuesday's replay opposition, who are not at a lower league status.
We have to accept this; but, within two years must be back to Conference level; ... Yes?

Well said Dr Saint. In normal circumstances a relegated team would be among the favourites to return. Look at some of the Yo-Yo clubs going between the Premiership and the Championship. But how many of those clubs have had the upheaval off the field in the boardroom, changed their manager and virtually all of the playing squad. All in the same close season.

Thanks for putting me right there Dr Saint. I'm afraid I had rather displayed my ignorance of the non-league "pyramid".
No wonder East Thurrock kept scoring when we gave them golden opportunities to do so!
Let's hope we are not as generous on Tuesday.
