I think it fair to say that I have been less than enthusiastic about the on field activity this season. I have (slightly tongue in cheek) said I'd give it until the end of October before going into despair mode. For the record my ambition at this stage is not that high. All I want is a settled side and the occasional little run of wins. Just above mid table would suit me fine in this first season since the "revolution". At the moment I think we are more likely to finish just above the relegation places. Our results this year are as follows:- WLWDLWLWLDWLDL The wins being against teams below us in the table. The things I like so far are: - We do seem to be able to score goals on a regular basis Things I do not like are: - Our defense is rubbish. - Certain player's faces to not seem to fit despite their contribution. - Having a player (who does not make much difference) who only plays Saturdays. Come on you City optimists, cheer me up. It's all going to be all right isn't it?

Tonight was total rubbish no excuses, there was no passion from the players or manager, if anything I think its getting worst, defence is a joke, we can't control the ball and put a pass together it's totally shocking. By now we should atleast have the same ish team coming out, Howell seems to play different players all the time. I am not convinced it's gonna get any better I am afraid, I hope I am wrong.

I think that there are enough poor teams to ensure that we won't get relegated but other then that, we will probably continue to be terrible for the forseeable future.

I agree with kermit. Probably won't get relegated, but tonight was truly shocking. I like others spend a lot of time and money travelling to home games as well as away games and we are not getting value for money on the pitch. The only way to get more people into games is to start winning matches which has to start soon.

Im getting sick and tired of David Howells rubbish boring tatics simply lumping the ball in the air they dont play as a team, no leader! The defence is a shambles!
Sort it out Ridley!!!

It's the 45 minute games we play that annoy me being alright for 45 then woeful for the next, we saw it tonight, at Stourbridge, at Swindon etc etc What on earth is said in the dressing room that makes the 2nd half performance so dreadful
One of the reason Howell was employed I think was because he was renouned for playing good football, we're not seeing that either It needs to be sorted quick otherwise he's going to start having the crowd on his back

What I don't get is why neither Bakare or Sean Shields are starting more games?!

My word for last night is abysmal. First time down t'Park since the Hemel match and things look to me to be going backwards. Nobody in the team willing (or able?) to put their foot on the ball and pass it. Defence slower than a three toed sloth. Actually felt sorry for Jerome Walker who was the only one trying to play some football. Funniest part of the night was standing in the Coca-Cola stand listening to the moany old gits. Sad thing was most of what they shouted was correct. Shame Howell didn't have nine subs to use last night :-(

What an absolute shambles. I cant imagine why I wasted a perfectly good evening to see a few scattered blokes kicking a ball aimlessly at a load of blokes with different coloured shirts on. I thought the idea was to pas the ball to team mates? Then to kick it into rather than in the general direction of the goal. At the same time you stop the other team doing the same to you? Defense non existent, team work non existent, accuracy of passing non existent, passion non existent and soon crowd non existent. I'm a moany old git! (but wasnt until I watched last nights 'performance')

I have said all along that while i greatly appreciate the hard work and investment done by the new owners i feel Steve Clark would have both retained and been able to improve the playing staff at the club. He deserved to be given a chance until christmas. Ridley has made a huge mistake with his appointment of our current Manager.

Now, he actually played in a team that did play passing football.

No, it is not too soon to panic. The early season energy and enthusiasm - from the players and the fans - is evaporating. Something needs to be done soon if we don't want to see a repeat of last season's decline - is Howell losing the players in the dressing room?

Steve Castle is a coach. How good he is, I couldn't say but a good manager, I'm afraid, he most certainly is not. Let's put that one to bed right now.

If you look at Howell's record over the last eight years , this is his third best start . What dis people expect

The feelgood factor seems to be slipping away rapidly at the moment i was even told last night 'In 40 years watching St Albans City this is the worst team i have ever seen' i thought that was a bit harsh.
I still feel it is too early to get carried away a couple of new signings maybe a central defender and a leader taking control in the middle of the park and i still believe we could mould a team that could beat most in this league !

In my opinion Howell has to be given much more time,he cannot be realistically expected to build a team from scratch in such a short space of time.Yes, Tuesday was a desperate disappointment and there will be more ahead but the boys need our backing not whinging and moaning.

Lets not start changing managers every eight or nine games. One season in the 1970s (can't remember which season) we had about five different managers during the season ending with Ex Romford player Tommy Barnett. We still got relegated.
Given the circumstances I would give Howell at least until Christmas and then see where we are.

Personally i would give him until Christmas at the most not the least. Agree with what was said earlier that we should be getting behind the players to encourage them. I was a bit disappointed at East Thurrock on Saturday that a couple of our fans were were having a go at the players and manager from very early on in the game.

I know that when I went to Stourbridge there were a few mutterings about Howell and the players. If the East Thurrock type of results continue the mutterings will get louder.

Gaz Why are they scared? Surely as FOOTballers they should be able to control and pass the ball. Isn't that why they're in the team. All we saw on Tuesday was hoof. Every time. Even the players "warming up" at half time stood miles apart from each other on the pitch and then kicked it as hard as possible at each other. Coaching? It appears there's none of that at City. We really couldn't have seen much worse from 11 of "us" picked from the terraces who could probably hoof it as well as that shower but might actually show a bit more passion! Maybe best to play the reserves on Saturday as they clearly have something about them? Cheers MWS

I see that Howell is saying that the players lack confidence. I'm never too convinced when managers turn to this old easy cliche. It sometimes means the manager has run out of ideas. There was no confidence problem against Cirencester or Hitchin, was there? What's happened? Maybe Howell needs some coaching and management support. I agree that he needs to be given a fair chance.

Maybe he should have more confidence in a settled side then the players will have more confidence that the manager rates them

@midweek I'm fully aware how the game 'should' be played (a childhood diet of ardiles, hoddle and johnnny pratt saw to that) as to why they are scared I ain't got a danny, I'll leave that to the experts.
As for any of 'us' being any better, dream on. cheers gaz
