- Furlong’s missed last weekend's match against Oxford City. In his post-match interview, David Howell suggested that he may well be ready to return to the first team on Saturday

- Howard Newton was called up for international duty with Guyana and has therefore missed the last three matches. Howell said that he was struggling with an ankle injury. However, he may well be back in contention for this match.

- Chris Seeby suffered a facial injury in the match against Oxford City last weekend. He was taken to hospital after the match with a suspected fractured cheekbone. It is unclear how long Seeby will be out with this injury.

The City Archives - Kingstonian, 1967[/u]

We have a new feature to place alongside our previews this season, as one of Saints Chat's regular posters, Brummie, delves into the history books to provide us with match reports from the past. This gives a chance to walk down memory lane, or learn a little about City's past, before the next match in the present!

This time, Brummie has given us a typed report of a league match between St. Albans City and Kingstonian. The Saints thrashed their opposition away from home going on to win the match 7-2.

ISTHMIAN LEAGUE

Kingstonian v St Albans City

October 25th 1967

St Albans City set a club record by scoring seven goals at Kingston on Wednesday, the biggest score away from home in their history in the Isthmian League.

Hat tricks by Bill Bloomfield and Alan McDonnell and a last minute goal by John Butterfield made City’s score the biggest since their Athenian League days.

The last time they scored seven goals away from home was on March 31st 1923 when they beat Guildford 8-1.

It was the second time that City scored seven goals this season and the win pushed them up to sixth in the table. Mc Donnell got his third hat-trick for the club, having twice scored three times in matvhes in his previous spellat Clarence Park in the 1962-63 season. Butterfield completed the rout with a minute to go.

St Albans City did not seem to have a weak link in their side.. Solid in the defence and lethal in their attack, their task was made easier by a struggling side that had no faithin itself with the game only a few minutes old.

Ironically, Kingstonians attack played some of its best football for weeks but, whenit came to defence they hadn’t the men or the skill to master such goal experts as McDonnell and Bloomfield.

Although he did not get in on the goal scoring Bobby Childs deserved his own share of the praise for his hard running and scheming. St Albans scored two goals in eight minutes and had four in the bag on the half hour and inflicted Kingstonian to their heaviest defeat in many years.

McDonnell opened the scoring after five minuted, Bloomfield got another three minutes later and from then on it was one way traffic. Every St Albans attack almost produced a goal and the Kingstonian defence had a nightmare first half. McDonnell scored again in the 14th minutes and Bloomfield smahed another on the half hour. Kingstonian came back with a goal from Johnny Willis A minute later it was nearly 4-2 when a St Albans post was hit. But City were so much on top it didn’t really matter.

McDonnell completed hid hat-trick five minutes into the second half and Bloomfield notched his third goal after Kigstonian had pulled another goal back.

That is a shame. James did a very good job and managed to keep his Stevenage support largely under wraps! It's frustrating that we won't be able to enjoy his City Live coverage any more; hopefully the Herts Ad will set someone else up to do it in the near future. Does anyone know what James is doing now?

This was very disappointing with only one attempt on goal in the 90 minutes, the superb header from Cedric. We looked out of sorts and really didn't string any decent passes together the whole game against a very poor Evesham side. In truth, if we had started with the eleven that finished the game (with the exception of David Ijaha, who appeared to go off with an injury) we would probably have come away with the 3 points. Simon Martin was outstanding in the 20 odd minutes he was on and was responsible for chasing what seemed to be a hopeless cause, winning the corner which led to the equalising goal from the resultant cross from Danny Hart.

It is fortunate that most of the other results went our way today. We need to step up to the plate next week against Bashley. We know we can do it so let's make sure we do and put today's game to the back of our minds.
