45/50 miles. Sounds a good deal to me, considering it would take twice as long to get there by public transport and probably cost at least twice as much.

Fair enough, I just thought one of the perks of being a member was discounted away travel. Not complaining at £10 though!

Fair enough, I just thought one of the perks of being a member was discounted away travel. Not complaining at £10 though! Probably used to be the case a while ago but it has been arranged and run by the Club for the past few seasons and they set the price, which is usually fairly reasonable. I used it a number of times last year.

Farnborough Away Preview
DetailsPublished on Friday, 15 August 2014 14:43 Written by Jake Ellacott Hits: 59
After an impressive 3-2 victory away to Staines Town on Tuesday night, the Saints return to action with a trip to Paddy Power Park to take on Farborough FC in the Vanarama Conference South.Farnboroughfc-logo
Tuesday’s victory came after an impressive 10 minute period where the Saints struck on three separate occasions to turn around a 2-0 deficit to come away with their first three points of the new season. Despite a much improved performance after Saturday’s defeat, City found themselves 2-0 down after 55 minutes. Two impressive individual strikes from Callum Willock and Louie Theophanous gave the hosts the lead, but, a quick-fire reply from Steve Wales allowed the Saints to get a foot hold in the game, and they soon drew level through the returning John Frendo. With 67 minutes on the clock, the most impressive strike of the evening came through Steve Wales, as he picked the ball up on the right of the box, and unleashed a dipping shot which left Jack Turner in the Staines goal stranded. Wales’ 8th goal in 12 competitive matches for the Saints proved to be a match winner for the visitors.
This coming weekend’s fixture will see City take on a Farnborough side who have lost their opening two fixtures. Boro suffered defeat away to Boreham Wood on the opening day, before a 3-2 loss at home to Weston-Super-Mare on Monday evening. These two defeats came after an impressive pre-season, where Farnborough won 5 matches and lost just two. However, it’s been a disappointing start to the season for Boro boss Spencer Day, and he will be hoping for a victory on Saturday afternoon.
Day has had to oversee a turbulent summer with The Yellows, with no less than 12 new players arriving in time for the new season. One such arrival was ex-Saint Curtis Shaw, who signed a short-term contract ahead of the 2014/15 campaign. Curtis made 9 appearances for City two seasons ago, and will not take on his former side.
Saints managers James Gray and Graham Gold go into the game with a fully fit squad to choose from after their side came through Tuesday night’s victory with no injury worries. Having secured such an impressive win over the side who finished last season’s Conference South in 8th position, the management may well go with the same starting XI at Farnborough tomorrow night.
Kick-Off at Paddy Power Park is 3pm.
Directions:
From the M3 motorway:
Leave the motorway at Junction 4 and take the A331 signed to Farnham. After a few hundred yards exit at the second slip road – signed A325 Farnborough – turn right at the roundabout and cross over the dual carriageway and a small roundabout.
From south of Farnborough
Take the A31, Guildford to Farnham road, and turn north onto the A331 dual carriageway, heading towards the M3. Ignore the Farnborough exit and leave the A331 at the Frimley exit before turning left at the top of the slip-road.
All directions
Pass the Farnborough Gate shopping centre on your left and at the next roundabout turn left onto the A325. Go over a pelican crossing and at the next set of lights take the right filter into Prospect
Avenue. At the end of this road turn right at the roundabout into Cherrywood Road. The ground is half a mile on the right.

Saints 1-0 up at half-time thanks to a deflected strike from James Comley.

Great result. Will look forward to reading a summary from someone who went later.
Our next two games are against Bishops Stortford and Eastbourne, both of whom Wealdstone have already played. Both games were draws. My Wealdstone-supporting mate's verdict is that Bishops Stortford had a big, strong number 9 but not too much else to worry about but that Eastbourne were a very tidy side.
What appears to be clear so far is that if Saints play to their potential, they will be a match for more than most of the teams in the division.

Went the game. Apart from it being scrappy the only other thing to report is their stadium is far too big and nice for the club. No atmosphere whatsoever from the home fans. Three points is all that matters. 1 point off the top!

Thank god the Saints won as after spending over 4 hours on the M25 today I wouldn't have been a happy bunny if we had returned empty handed. Thought we controlled most of the game apart from a 15 minute spell early in the second half when Joe Welsh 'did a Bazza' and made 2 or 3 important good saves to maintain the lead. A few scrambles towards the end were not overly threatening by a Farnborough side who IMO will struggle badly this season. They didn't have any real game plan apart from the good old hoof! We really struggled with the final ball today and despite plenty of possession around their 18 yard line we either held onto the ball too long and hence too slow a build up or the wrong options were taken with players out wide being in space to maintain the attack going. I like the shape of the team with just Frendo up front who retains possession better than Pires or Buchanan. Last 2 games have been a big improvement from the first game of the season.

A game of two quite contrasting halves. The first which we totally dominated in terms of possession and territory, the second where Farnborough lifted themselves out of the stupor they were in and might have nicked a point. We continued where we had left off on Tuesday, knocking it around with consummate ease and looked in no trouble whatsoever, Farnborough looked incredibly lightweight .Once we had taken the lead I thought we would score two or three more, but they improved markedly and we seemed rather open. I can't exactly pinpoint why we let them back into this, because they look a poor team, easily the worst of the three we have played so far. They did change their formation after about an hour, changing from three centre halves to two,but I don't think this was the reason. We do seem to play quite an 'expansive' game, with the two full backs constantly bombing forward,Comley, Keenleyside and Wales all giving support to the striker.Comley probably made more forward runs today than I have ever seen from him before. The pitch seemed to play quite slow, and from the sideline looked in need of a cut, a big contrast to the pitch at Staines which I thought looked magnificent. Credit to Joe Welch for two excellent saves in the second half, I hadn't been sure about him in the first two games but he looked very assured today. A return of six points from three games is a cracking start in this new league, and the way we played at Staines and in the first half today gives me confidence that we will have a decent season and not be flirting with the relegation zone.

I spent too many hours on the M25 too. Then went up the M40 when I got to it! I couldn't sit there any longer. Satnav packed up in the middle of Slough.
How grumpy was I when I got there at 3:30?
Anyway, soon cheered up. First half very good, chips and tea good, second half we hung on in there. Welsh made some impressive saves (thank goodness!) otherwise it might have been different. I didn't think we were going to get another goal despite some very clever passing. Just couldn't get to the goal.
Anyway, a good game and well done to the Mighty Saints!

I put down Joe Welch as the most important player this season in another thread as I felt it could be another season where we really will depend on the keeper again
A lot of us were saying last season we tried to walk it through or thread it through the eye of the needle far too much(especially Def Com 1) so nice to have him take a pop

Another fantastic 3 points, supporters were superb yet again, the flags, the chants - class act.
First half: we were well on top, unlucky not to be further ahead, the final pass let us down at times, agreed about Comley taking a shot, many a time I've seen him line up a shot, dummy and pass in a fantastic position.
Second Half: we seemed to relax and drop off Farnborough allowing them to come at us. We can't allow better opposition time and space like we did today as we'll be punished, Welch made some superb saves to guarantee us the three points.
What a difference Frendo makes, I'm sorry to say but Pires is one of the laziest players I've seen put on the Saints shirt. He doesn't look interested and looks like he can't be arsed half the time. Against Staines and today he came on late as a sub and walked around, didn't track back or chase anything - he needs to sort himself out.
Enough of the negatives - fantastic three points - Stortford we are coming for you!
Also why can't we have a laugh at our 'rivals' Hemel losing again?

No, it's just that every single post from Citycentresaint mentions Hemel... It is a bit boring (Even when they haven't lost two in a row, they're mentioned haha) Not that it's actually a problem... Would just like to hear a different tune once in a while! Anyway, well done Saints on a cracking result!

Well again yest to managers and players for prof job done, dont think there`s goin to be any easy games in this league. I really like system played in last two away games but would like us at home to play with two down middle and take it to the opposition, bonus of having attacking full backs will always get width. Looking forward to Bishops next sat, lets hope for 3pts. COYS

Couldn't make the game but glad to hear we have 3 points without being great. Winning ugly is always good. We need points on the board as early as possible in order to avoid any dalliance with a relegation battle. lets leave that to others who may be involved after a poor start.... I will mention Hemel! They must be shell-shocked. Winning scrappy games is something we need to do in order to secure a place in this league so well done yo all who made the 4 hour trek to Farnboro and well done to all at the game. 6 points out of 9? Id have bitten your hand off after last Saturday, or even before1 keep it up. COYS

My main focus is on the Saints.
After a rocky start, two away wins are a great confidence boost.
Just need to keep going and roll over Bishop Stortford on Saturday.

I would be more concerned about Boreham Wood. Good side, good manager, good stadium, and who needs any supporters !
I hope I am wrong but I can see them in the Conference National, and like Hayes and Yeading hanging around there for several seasons.
