Sam Bentley saves a penalty (which probably shouldn't have been awarded in the first place) on 28 mins.

Struggled in front of goal.
Would have been useful to have a 30 goal a season striker starting.

An even first half was followed by another second half capitulation as we’ve seen in a number of recent games, Tuesday included. We could have been 1 down within about 10 seconds with Aveley smashing the crossbar and the ball bouncing down and out from distance. We created a number of openings but again lacked firepower in front of goal with Akanbi having two excellent chances going begging. I was pleased to see him score and play well on Tuesday but today and his previous displays suggests that was probably not the norm.
Aveley were a bit of a strange side, a mix of some real old school defending and some useful players going forwards. They looked to play positively and were well set up.
We continued our run of giving away penalties and then saving them. It looked a bit rash from the young keeper who I thought looked a bit nervy and lacking in experience (as you’d expect he would). I wonder with MJ out for so long whether we really need some more experienced cover.
The second half was absolutely dismal, we gave the ball away so many times and had absolutely no idea on the field or seemingly in the dugout how to get back into the game. We huffed and puffed a bit late on but don’t think we forced a save from the keeper once.
I often wonder what games Noble watches with his subs and team selections. The decision to substitute Fage when he was the only one offering any direct threat was the final straw really.
I gave up with listening to his interview after the pathetic response to the question of justifying why he never starts Jeffers. It’s rare to hear anything from the interviewer that could be labelled as in anyway critical or probing and I guess after that response we won’t be gaining any further insight as to the managers thoughts on why he isn’t playing the clubs most successful goal scorer in years.

A reasonably entertaining game, we played quite well in patches but didn’t really do enough in the final third. Normally I would admit that Aveley were the better side but after watching their constant falling over after minimal contact I can’t wish them well. The penalty was a case in point, the striker pushed the ball well ahead of his reach and then did the straight legged swan dive over Bentley. Maybe I’ll see it differently after I watch the highlights, but I doubt it. Bentley has to learn when to rush out and when to stay at home, but he redeemed himself with a smart penalty save.
Regarding the diving, it was doubly annoying as some of the time the referee didn’t fall for it, but didn’t flash the cards to stop it.
I couldn’t understand the substitutions. Bringing on Morall first instead of Jeffers was bizarre and then taking off Fage, who was causing them all sorts of trouble, was mind-boggling. He didn’t appear to be injured or exhausted so I just don’t get it.
On the plus side I thought Harvest looked useful.

This was dross of the highest order. A clueless team with a clueless manager. How he picks Akanbi in front of Shaun is unbelievable. I mean tip tapping across the penalty in the last 5 minutes when we are losing, it's ridiculous.

It was disappointing today, Aveley did work hard and were well organised, but for all that, I felt it was 3 points lost today, you have to think that when you lose at home l think. We are where we are l guess, l know we moved up the table a bit lately, but perhaps this sort of result just brings us down to earth and tells us really, that, given how the injuries have affected us, the resources we have or haven't got, depending on which way you look at it, around mid table is us

Noble floundered a bit in that post-match inter view a bit l think, and l agree, Noble's reply as to why he doesn't start Jeffers, tells you very little, so we'll probably never know the answer to that, but of course we can all form our own opinions of that. l know l have. Unless I've got it wrong, Noble did sound a tiny bit techy. He's new to managing at this level and I'm starting to wonder if taking the rough with the smooth might take its toll. On the whole, we've mostly had the smooth since Noble came in, but there's a bit more rough now, so let's see if he can handle it, but that's where experience comes in, and Nobles not experienced in managing

Agree. If he is so insistent and confident in the reasons for not starting Jeffers, why not just expand on those and offer a proper explanation. He could even go as far as stating that he understands the frustrations given Shaun’s record. He’s treating us as fans as fools with his childish response today.
It’s quite clear there’s more at play than simple team selection with contracts etc but it’s been so badly managed by the manager and owners. It is just festering and creating a far more negative atmosphere around the place than is necessary. You do wonder if players are also looking and thinking why the hell are we not starting this guy.

There was a lot of emphasis today on the hospitality available, that's ok but if it doesn't work out on the pitch people will realise they are being taken for a ride, attendances will fall, its a results based game not a beer and chips one.

Totally agree, if I want chicken wings, I can go to KFC. The fans are being taken for a ride. Our best player is being forced out to cut costs.

If you really think the owners are trying to cut costs, why have we just signed 3 players mid season, with one being Partington whos national league and football league experienced so must be on a fair packet also we signed wyatt at the end of pre season who must also be on a fair amount, also we have one of the largest squads we’ve had in years with 22 players, also if we were trying to push Jeffers out surely he would've been sold in summer as if he is as good as you guys believe surely loads of clubs would of been chasing him

We are a mediocre side in a very average league, a midtable finish will be about right.

I think the stats show how good Jeffers is, to overlook that in your constant support of the owners and manager is somewhat naive.
I’m personally not bothered either way with chicken, craft beers etc, but others are and if gets them through the door and brings money in then I’m all for it. The owners have made some silly moves over their time but overall they’ve done more good than bad in my view, but that’s not to say them or the management shouldn’t come under scrutiny when things aren’t right.
The constant benching of Jeffers, and then silence and refusal to properly deal with that in my view isn’t right. We’ve had situations in the past with players for whatever reason not fitting in, or being picked, that people didn’t necessarily agree with (I’m thinking the likes of Comley, Theophanous) but the situation was dealt with far better than it is now.

Nobles previous excuses about not playing Jeefers were, he doesn't run around enough or he doesn't fit into the system. So what does he do, gets Akanbi in. Who does exactly what Jeffers does or could do. The opposition must be laughing their heads off week in week out seeing Jeffers on the bench.
