THE FINAL WORD - written by Saint (Jake Ellacott)
How did the Saints get on against Brackley Town?
City battled to 1-1 draw with high-flying Brackley Town on Saturday afternoon. Brackley, who came to Clarence Park top of the table and expecting their good form to continue, couldn't get the win against a dogged Saints side. In fact, City could easily have snatched victory in the dying moments of the game.
The match started off brightly and within 2 minutes, City had scored. Danny Hart, starting on the left of midfield, played a teasing ball into the box which evaded everyone but it travelled through to Sean Shields, who struck a powerful shot from an acute angle and past the Brackley 'keeper.
However, 4 minutes later and the away side got back on level terms. Josh Green rose above everyone and powered home a header from a Owen Storey corner.
After half-time, the pressure began to mount on the Saints. Man of the Match Nick Jupp, pulled off a spectacular save from point blank range when Steve Diggin struck an effort which Jupp somehow managed to block by twisting his body to make the block.
With just injury time remaining, City, spurred on by the introduction of Sakho Bakare, pushed forward in numbers and had chances to win the game. It remained level, however, and the Saints can be pleased with their performance and with a point against one of the best sides they've met this season.
What did David Howell have to say about it?
Howell felt that going 1-0 up so early against Brackley almost backfired on us, as it woke Brackley up and they raised their game. The Saints manager talked about the difficulty in dealing with Brackley Town in terms of defensive set-pieces, particularly corners, which was somewhat resolved by his instructions for the second-half.
The manager praised the performance in the second-half and said that the team were pushing for the three points right up until the final whistle.
He feels that the new players have given the lads a bit of an injection of confidence. Overall, the Saints boss said that he thought all the players contributed and gave a good account of themselves.
Finally, Howell talked about the crowd finally getting behind the team. He said it was the first time he had heard the fans singing and showing their support for the team.
How are Chippenham Town getting on this season?
Chippenham currently sit in 8th place, with 25 points from 17 games.
In their last league outing, the Bluebirds drew 1-1 away at Arlesey Town. Toby Osman scored the goal for the visitors in the 18 minute, but they were pegged back in the 52nd minute.
Finally:
So will the Saints get their away form back on track? Or will the Bluebirds defeat a City side on the up? Get involved in the pre- and post-match discussion in the thread below!

The City Archives - Ware, 1974[/u]
We have a new feature to place alongside our previews this season, as one of Saints Chat's regular posters, Brummie, delves into the history books to provide us with match reports from the past. This gives a chance to walk down memory lane, or learn a little about City's past, before the next match in the present!
This time, Brummie has given us a typed report of a cup match that took place in 1974 against Ware. This one will be a two parter, with the second report coming alongside the preview for the Leamington game this coming weekend. Over to Brummie for the report!
Thanks, as always, go to Brummie for delving into the City Archives to provide us with an interesting read alongside our usual match previews!

Bakare should have been starting with Shariff tonight IMO.
We definitely need someone like O'Leary, and quick.
Still lots of work to do.

Oh dear.....and Leamington on Saturday. I don't think patching things up with loan players and generally messing about is going to be good enough, what was this nonsense with O'Leary ! Obviously the midfield needs fixing, and quickly, and maybe Gray returning at the back will give us some backbone, but i can't really see that he is a long term answer either.....

I left kingsbury NW9 at 1730 for a mad dash to Chippenham. Made it in tome for KO but spent 15 mins trying to find entrance to ground. Gets my vote as the worst signposted ground ive visited-in fact no signposting. As for the game we matched them for 10 minutes then same old same old. The previous 2 games were sadly a false dawn , altho i felt that the opposition was not that great especially Brackley-top of the league/ We are leaderless on and off the park. Mr ridley face up to the fact you made a poor decision re david h and sack him. Weve used a zillion players from all leagues with little effect. QWe need a solid stabilised team and someonewho can get them to p[lay as a unit rather than a disparate group. We were lucky to get nil. and having driven over 100 miles to get to the game i left early at 3-0 down. first time ever. And Chippenham are no graet shakes. We made them look good. And I must state that I am surprised at the number of apologists we have among our support. I agree that you must give a manager time but we are seeing nothing on the field to suggest that he has a scooby. So ian, bite the bullet. The step up from harrow to this div is clearly one too far.We need a settled team with a manager who has some idea of what to do with them. And read the post match comments made by Mr Howell since he came to the club. Interesting. No mention of responsibility

Well i reckon that taking into consideration travel, entrance, drinks and food that trip to Chippenham cost me somewhere in the region of £60, and it's not the first time i've spent around that amount. Value for money, i really don't think so. Doing a lot of soul searching before deciding whether to go to Leamington or not. Maybe the club should lay on free coaches to those of us that have been subjected to our away form!!
