THE FINAL WORD - written by Saint (Jake Ellacott)
How did the Saints get on against Chippenham Town?
The Saints fell to a disappointing 4-0 defeat away at Chippenham Town on Tuesday evening.
With Chris O'Leary having returned to Wealdstone, and Paul Furlong not available, manager David Howell was forced to make two changes. He brought Rob Haworth and Barrie Matthews back into the side.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 13th minute, when Osman found himself in space and released a strong shot, which went past Jupp's right and into the back of the net.
Chippenham doubled their lead a short time later when Stearn hit a cross towards Jupp's goal, and it somehow managed to find its way into the back of the net.
City could have got back into the game, as efforts from Bakare and Haworth hit the woodwork after half-time. However, the home side put the result beyond any doubt in the 70th minute when Powell headed home a Stearn cross.
With 1 minute of normal time remaining, Powell scored the fourth goal with a long-range strike.
What did David Howell have to say about it?
Howell talked about the spark among the players recently and the positivity around Clarence Park in recent games. However, he felt that the team weren't positive enough coming into this game. The Saints boss said that he felt the players were lacking in commitment on Tuesday night and that was the reason for this poor result. He concluded that it 'just wasn't good enough'.
He mentioned that he will have to look at bringing in some new players over the coming weeks.
One interesting thing to come out of the interview was that Howell talked about O'Leary leaving the club, saying that O'Leary's heart was at Wealdstone and that the player felt he would be happier there.
How are Leamington getting on this season?
The Brakes find themsleves sitting in 4th place in the table, with an impressive 32 points from 17 games. Just 2 points behind league leaders AFC Totton.
In their last league match, Leamington drew 1-1 away at Chesham United. Jacob Blyth scored a 62nd minute leveller for the visitors.
Finally:
So will the Saints get back on track on Saturday? Or will the Brakes ensure that City's disappointing away form continues? Get involved in the pre- and post-match discussion in the thread below.

The City Archives - Ware, 1974 (Part Two)[/u]
We have a new feature to place alongside our previews this season, as one of Saints Chat's regular posters, Brummie, delves into the history books to provide us with match reports from the past. This gives a chance to walk down memory lane, or learn a little about City's past, before the next match in the present!
This time, Brummie has given us a typed report of a cup match that took place in 1974 against Ware. This is 'Part Two' of the report, with the first report having sat alongside our Chippenham Town preview. Over to Brummie for the report!
Thanks, as always, go to Brummie for delving into the City Archives to provide us with an interesting read alongside our usual match previews!

I doubt the manager will start with Bakare and Furlong together up front. After Tuesday night, Walker should definitely start, either wide left with Shields or Hart wide right (can't say I am bothered which) or up front if Shariff isn't available.
Let's hope we see two or three new faces to replace those who have gone. Preferably a centre back, a defensive midfielder and a striker.

Just a suggestion but what about "On this day in History"...
Anyway history is not on our side as we have lost 6 of the 9 games we have played away on this day...

I doubt the manager will start with Bakare and Furlong together up front. You are probably right Boomer. Thinking about it, I'm not sure how well they would complement each other. I hope Shariff might be available. Otherwise Walker is a good shout. Indeed.

Hi Saints fans, we are looking forward to welcoming you all to our ground tomorrow. The picture you have is out of date and that is now a terraced stand, there are no seats there. There are two small seated stands on opposite sides of the pitch, one level with the halfway line known as the 'sheepside' stand and the other near the end of the pitch on the opposite side. As you can see, the 'Harbury Lane End' stand is covered, the 'North Bank' end, although terraced, is not. Bring your winter coats/hats/gloves - it is a cold ground, particularly if it is windy. We have:- a club shop, programme shop Food outlet (Berties) - Burgers/hot dogs/chips/pies/curry sauce etc. plus tea. Sweet shop which also sells Tea/Coffee/Hot Chocolate/Soup. There is a licenced bar in the clubhouse and we have our own bottled beer - Brakes Fluid (brewed and bottled by a local brewery) Pubs nearer station within 5 mins walk- Jug & Jester (Wetherspoons but a decent one), TJs (just down the same street and favoured by most Brakes fans), Exchange - nearest to station , Avenue (ok). Lunch & pint at most of these available. Many more pubs up in town. Buses go from Parish Church (next to Jug & Jester) at 12.44, 13.44, 14.44 (latter not recommended), 15 mins to ground. £3.something return. Taxi about £6-8 from station, 4 sharing not too bad. Bus back from ground to town at 1734. Dark spot in the verge, but there is a bus stop! The town in general is very nice, as St Albans is, although it's very different. I recommend getting here a bit earlier and taking a stroll up into town. Bus (65 or 66) goes all the way down the Parade (main street) if you work it out. Regards the entry prices, the only reduction is Student 'Special Offer' - Half price off the normal student entry price of £6 for this match..making it a very affordable £3 on production of a valid Student ID card. We have a large student population thanks to Warwick University and are trying to attract more of them to the ground on matchdays. Have a pleasant safe journey up but please leave the 3 points behind when you leave

Today's team:
Jupp; Harriman, Moran, Jinadu, Scott (from MWY); Shields, Gray, Ijaha, Watts; Furlong, Walker.
On the bench - Bakare, Lansiquot, Haworth, Taylor (MWY), Yorke.
Most likely 4-4-2 with Gray as holding midfielder.

Wots happened to herts ad live coverage? Where do loan players come from?

HT 0-0.
The Saints are playing reasonably well and have even shaded the first-half, though there haven't been many chances for either side.
Jupp made a magnificent save early on from a brilliantly taken direct free-kick by Leamington which looked like it would be a certain goal.

Wots happened to herts ad live coverage? I'm not sure. They haven't even been doing their pre-match articles recently. In the squad today, there is just Harriman who is on loan and he is from QPR. Scott and Taylor come from the youth side. Lansiquot is a new signing, I believe. See the player profile I posted above.

FT Leamington 1 Saints 0.
The Saints were really unlucky and perhaps even the better side.
Leamington now go top but didn't really look like a top of the table team.
The referee also made some questionable decisions.
Saints fans will have every reason to feel very disappointed not to have taken something from the game.

Talking with a couple of Saints fans at the match, I found that they both said that the Saints were basically 'robbed' today. Some poor decisions from the referee and also just some plain bad luck. City really ought to have come away with a point or all three.

I'm told that it was a much improved performance today.
A great performance by James Gray and a brilliant league debut for youth player Myles Scott at left-back.
Youth player, Matt Taylor, also came on late as a sub to make his debut.
Good to see the MWY players getting a chance in the first-team.
