Apologies for the lack of updates. Unfortunately, Saint wasn't able to get online to post as he usually does. It was utterly miserable anyway. If you weren't at the match, you were better off not knowing the score. I wish I could wipe it from my memory! We bossed the first 10 or 15 minutes but it was all downhill from then onwards. Barwell exposed our defensive shortcomings time and time again. It was embarrassing. Their number 7, Jamie Towers, dominated down the right flank and we didn't come up with a solution for him all afternoon. By the end of the match, Barwell were slicing through us at will and playing as if it was a training match. It was utterly appalling from a St. Albans City point of view. It could perhaps even have been more than six for Barwell, in truth. There is nothing good to say about the St. Albans City performance so I think I'll just not say anything else. A terrible afternoon at Clarence Park.

Can it get any worse than this ? I thought the cup replay with Thurrock would have to be the low point of the season, but six against at home is appalling.Howell has got to change the line up, Watts,Hart,Sean Shields or whatever pair he selects are too lightweight he must get someone solid to bolster the midfield and help the wretched defenders. I will excuse the two left backs today as they were up a against a real flyer, but the other three were dire, including Harriman who seems to have a lot of fans on here (possibly because he can trap the ball and runs forward a lot) but he can not defend. The Hemel match is looking like. Six pointer already. Is it two or three that go down ?

Apologies for the lack of updates. No worries. The only thing we far way supporters had was the crappy livescores site which gives you "updates" half an hour after the event. Judging by the score we needn't have bothered. Lol

The failings have been clear for some time. We have slow centre halves, with poor cover in centre mid. We aren't set up to defend as a team & the shape isn't there. Time & again a flat, slow back 4 is exposed by diagonal balls & forwards running off centre mids who don't track back. Not sure I agree with calling for the manager's head... Do we know the budget he has to work with? Do we know what the expectations are? What is the plan - he could be on track if the plan is stay clear of relegation, build a brand new squad & challenge for title next season... Question - if you want the manager out, who would you have in?

This game was an absolute disgrace and an affront to all Saints supporters. We are now 27 league and cup games into the season and things are no better now than the very first game, in fact they appear to be infinitely worse. We are now 14th in the league and if teams below us get even modest results in their games in hand, we will sink to 19th. I don't think we want to be concerning ourselves with the play off zone, I think it is more a case of concerning ourselves with the drop zone, which is a serious reality. I can see home attendances dropping like a stone, if this continues. Big changes are needed at this club and they are needed right now.
I was at the away game at Barwell earlier in the season and anyone with an ounce of nous could have seen just how good Jamie Towers was on the day. Barwell played Hitchin at Topfield last Saturday. I would have thought it might have been an good idea to have had them watched again. Basic stuff but, on today's showing, clearly that didn't happen. I agree with lonecrank, it was not down to either of the left backs today. It was down to the management team. Towers is a class act, who is not only a superb crosser of the ball but also a deadly finisher. He needs to be shut down accordingly, even it if takes two to do it on occasions. You don't invite trouble.
The one shining light today - Jerome Walker, who played his heart out. MOM by a distance. How good could he be with some decent service?

Question - if you want the manager out, who would you have in? I am categorically nor suggesting that the existing manager should go, but................................ If he should go, the replacement I would prefer would be someone who has had success at this level and then progressed at a higher level. Failing that a person with some success at a higher lever. Above all, somebody with the necessary contacts and/or an impressive track record. If we cannot afford the above, so be it. We have found our natural level and must live with it.

Amazed by todays result, city fans deserve better than this, maybe Dave should be given some money to spend before we fall any further.

Awful performance today, the bad thing is they were nothing special just our defence can make anyone look good at the moment. The only thing with the manager is that just after half time started well and could have got back level with Gray and Watts missing chances so maybe he gave a good talk. But it seems to me that us as supporters tell the players what to do more than he does he doesnt really move and he would never have celebrated a goal like the Barwell manager did today, he needs to do something and qucikly.

I know for a fact that a senior player in this squad has said "he doesn't know what he's doing" I heard it from the horses mouth....
2 league wins in 12 says it all, I really wanted to give Howell a chance and I sat on here defending him only a couple of weeks ago but he has to go, just bot good enough

Sadly the manger has no clue and this is affecting some ok players who are capable of doing a job in this league. But why have we ahd to suffer as supporters when it has been clear from very early on that Mr Howell isnt up to the job? Mr Ridley has been very supportive but needs to swallow his pride and admit he made a mistake with this guy. we have had every trite excuse from Mr Howell and it has been laughable. Almost like 'the wrong kind of leaves on the line'! Never not once has he accepted any full responsibiliry. Well for the ,amazingly, number of apologists we have supporting The Saints- Wake up!!!! look at what is happening! I was asked by a senior Saints figure who I woul;d want in hHowells place and, not joking, I replied that I could do a better job. We have used about a zillion players and we still seem to have no shape or idea. Shore up that defence! WE need a centre forward who is not over 40 or even 30. And bringing back Simon Martin? Funnily enuff tho he wasnt too bad! What the rest of them are in comparison then!I will leave all the pantomime jokes to others! The most inept performance on and off the field I have witnessed by a Saints first team. And Barwell were better than us. Doesnt make them good. This is a crap division. The odd gint of lite aint enuff and you then have to question how good the oppo really were. We are making average teams look good and results after we play them usually back this up. We dont want to be another Weymouth Mr Ridley.

My opinion from an earlier thread hasn't changed. I saw this happen at Tranmere with John Barnes. The manager talked a good game and found a million reasons why the team kept getting beat, none of which were anything to do with him. Reality is his team, his tactics, his training sessions. Tranmere saw the light and got rid after 3 months, the club physio took over and kept them up. Four months in at CP and City appear to be getting worse not better. If EFMTFTV is right and Howell has lost the dressing room then he must go now - not a Merry Xmas is looming.

David Howell has to go he is way out of his depth, clearly not up to the job, he lacks serious passion, tatically he is not good enough, and clearly has no contacts to bring decent players in, Simon Martin whats all that about? Expect to here the same rubbish in his interview!

I was one who thought Howell was a good appointment at the time. Afraid to say I was wrong and perhaps in hindsight we should have appointed a manager who knows and has done well in the Southern League. If things don't change quickly, a relegation fight is looking a real probablility!

i have heard from a reliable source that our budget is about 4k a week , probably way more thn the club can afford, better than most others in this division . So how much more would it take to turn this team around!!

If the budget is 4K a week, some players are obviously earning much more than than their performances merit. Anyone know how many are on contract?

It doesn't take much to see this side has got quite a bit going forward with the likes of Furlong, Howarth, Frenchie, Walker, Shields and Hart etc (joint 4th top scorers) we don't need to bring in players like Simon Martin we need at least 1 if not 2 centre backs and a central midfielder to control things it's not asking a lot !

Could not have said it better myself, Hatboy. Pretty much summed it up for me.
The question is whether Howell is realising this or not? If he isn't, he's blind and incompetent. If he is, then questions need to be asked as to why is he not addressing it? Does he not have the contacts?
Either way, action needs to be taken.

Can you believe with a record of W 6 D 4 L 10 we are still only 13 points behind first and 10 points above last !
Although having said that if Totten win their games in hand they could go 8 points clear and if Oxford win their games in hand they would also go 7 points clear of leamington.

We're in good company AFC Totton lost 6-1 too!

Hitchin are 1 up at Evesham if they win we'll drop another place to 15th. Hitchin did win and we are now down to 15th Can you believe with a record of W 6 D 4 L 10 we are still only 13 points behind first and 10 points above last ! Our true position will only be apparent once, once all the rest of the teams above us and below us have caught up with their games in hand and it will be a lot lower than 15th.

According to the SL website, Evesham won 1-0, but don't know whether that makes it better or worse for us - Evesham have now won 2 on the trot and play Arlesey on tuesday
Clearly a battle of 2 out of form teams next Saturday - would this count as a 6 pointer at this relatively early part of the season?

i have heard from a reliable source that our budget is about 4k a week , probably way more thn the club can afford, better than most others in this division . So how much more would it take to turn this team around!! I also heard from a reliable source that it is around 3.5k. How much more would it take to turn this team around, you ask, allsaints? With the current management team, I don't feel it would make a scrap of difference, putting more money in and whether it is 3.5k or 4k at the moment is probably neither here nor there. On those sort of figures, we should be sitting comfortably in the top half of the table. For the record, I believe one team in this league is operating on a weekly budget of below 1k. Another thing I have a problem with is the team we put out every week. I may be wrong but have we ever put out the same 11 players in consecutive games this season? Perhaps some kind statto out there could help out on that. I accept that constant changes were necessary in the early stages of the season but not now. If we are going to achieve anything, we should be playing a settled side on a regular basis. I have to question if the management know their best side because that is certainly the impression they are giving. This leads me on to the size of the squad. Looking at the website and allowing for the three latest signings, we would appear, currently, to be carrying a squad of some 27 players and that figure excludes one loanee, three youth players and three dual registrations. I don't think that requires any further comment. I can see why fans are concerned.
