What is happening? The season started with so much belief, and some reasonable football. It's the same manager, the same squad (more or less). Is it fitness, tired legs after half time? Are there problems between players, or players and manager? I can see us dropping into the danger zone.

Hi Barker. I was thinking the same thing. It seems that they are running out of steam after getting a lead in some games. I wonder where we would be in the league if the games were 45 minutes long instead of 90. I suspect in the top six. Is it a stamina problem??.

Saints would have had 29 points if it ended at halftime.

Ridley needs to act now...wrong choice of Manager who has bought in several players simply not good enough.. relegation is a distinct possibity. Also losing to TWO teams in lower leagues in the Cup is a financial disaster and disgrace.

Maybe it's me, but Howells after match comments are sounding very similar to those of Steve Castle. But, if he went, then who (players and manager) would come to a team relegated from the Blue Square South and falling down the Southern League?

But, if he went, then who (players and manager) would come to a team relegated from the Blue Square South and falling down the Southern League? Is Steve Castle still at Oaklands? I wouldn't be surprised if he'd come back, given that he's been 'fired and hired' before. Mind you, I'm not sure if all would welcome him back. Disclaimer: I am in no shape or form suggesting that the current Manager should go.

Castle should have been given a chance until Christmas..after the last two seasons under Gibson he did well just to get a team on the pitch ! I am sure he could have retained some of our better players and enticed a few back (Smith,Everett,Frater,Deeney etc). He also has vast non league Football knowledge and contacts in the game. And at least he showed passion and enthusiasm on the side of the pitch. Without that ten point deduction fiasco he would have kept us up. Ridley must take responsibility for this disasterous appointment. I am convinced if Steve was still in charge we would have progressed in the cups and be top six in the league.

Castle should have been given a chance until Christmas Castle had more than long enough. He was a dreadful manager. The results don't lie.

I watch my football at Prenton Park now, home to Tranmere Rovers. A couple of years ago the club appointed John Barnes as manager. He talked a great game, sounded really plausible and thoughtful. He brought in several new players. After an initial flurry of good results in August 2009, the team went into decline and conceded goals aplenty. I hate to say it but what's happening at C Park is uncannily similar. Luckily the Tranmere's board realised in October that if Barnes stayed in charge then relegation was a certainty, and he was let go. Rumour has it that Barnes had 'lost the dressing room'. The club stayed up finishing one point above the relegation places. Maybe, just maybe, the same fate awaits Howells? I know there's a good argument to support the manager bedding in a new team, but I'm worried that after 3 months we're still losing important football matches to teams we really ought to be beating. Howell has had long enough now, he seems to off lost some of the dressing room allready, we need an urgent change or things could get really bad!

He also has vast non league Football knowledge and contacts in the game............ Has he really? From what I recall, almost every player he was responsible for bringing in came from either Leyton Orient, Peterborough, Brentford or Southend. His contacts in non league football were virtually nil. You are seriously deluding yourself.

He also has vast non league Football knowledge and contacts in the game. Speed-dial 1 - Leyton Orient Speed-dial 2 - Peterborough EFM is bang on. With perhaps a third speed-dial of any ex-players that might be interested in playing some god-awful football.

Well, who would have thought, when the season started, that we'd be discussing the merits of Steve Castle by November. The new owners and chairman are clearly ambitious. It's going to be interesting to see how they deal with this.

Saints would have had 29 points if it ended at halftime. That is an extremely shocking fact. Howell has had long enough now, he seems to off lost some of the dressing room allready, we need an urgent change or things could get really bad! Lost the dressing room? How can we know that? Arguing from the other side for a moment, ultimately a manager can only be as good as the players he has available. Some of them certainly aren't performing well enough and maybe some are even letting him down at the moment. He also has vast non league Football knowledge and contacts in the game. Speed-dial 1 - Leyton Orient Speed-dial 2 - Peterborough Harsh EFM, but I have to say that I laughed. ;D On a serious note, looking backwards towards the previous manager surely isn't the answer.

He was clearly well regarded by those supporters who voted for him as Clubman of the Year in 2009/10 in recognition of the good job that he had done in very difficult circumstances that season.

I think that voting for him was inspite of Mr Gibson and to be fair i like to know how many people voted for him.

No-one is saying he didn't work hard that year - that's why he won the award. Fact is, he wasn't any good for this club and the worse thing we could possibly do is go backwards. A line needs to be drawn under all that.

I believe that award was supposed to be given to a volunteer at the club not the paid manager.
Under a propoer chairman and board Castle would have been sacked during his first spell and would not have returned. Gibson was only interested in the proposed Oaklands incursion into green belt land to fill his own pockets. That is why Castle remained at the club, unchallenged, for so long.

Paul Bastock Ryan Frater Drew Roberts Adam Everitt Peter Smith Paul Hakim Luke Thurlbourne Sol Sheilds Gary Cohen James Fisher (when he was good) James Quilter Godfrey Poku It must have been really difficult to grab a mid-table berth with all them good players

Hi Aries, Just to clarify - the Wagstaffe Simmons award was inaugurated in the 2008/9 season and is awarded to 'the person, who voters think has done most for club during the season, either on or off the field.' The award is not solely restricted to volunteers, as I understand the previous 'Clubman of the Year' may have been. Winners to date - 2008/09 Ian Rogers 2009/10 Steve Castle 2010/11 Ian Rogers I certainly agree with the second part of your post. Unforgivable.

Boomer,
Thanks for that; I somehow thought it was for volunteers only.
2009/10 must have been a dazzling season on the pitch to keep Mr Rogers from his hat trick.
