Good they tried to contact Nick Archer, not that surprising he fobbed them off

Good they tried to contact Nick Archer, not that surprising he fobbed them off To be fair, I would rather the Chairman wait to speak to all the parties involved and then release an official statement. However, as you said, it's good to see the local press attempting to get some word from the club this early. (I can see why he would not give an answer just two days after)

I'd rather the chairman make a comment saying 'we are looking into it, obviously there are rumours, we will look to get to the bottom of this and decide what if any action to take when we speak to John when he gets back from Spain' etc etc etc. All parties involved? Who else is there?

Who else is there? That's very true, he could have easily said something like that also. By parties involved, I was simply using it as a turn of phrase when talking about Frendo and also the management, who will of course have their own opinion on the matter. Training takes place on Monday nights, does it not? I guess they'll be a few conversations behind the scenes tonight if Frendo is back from Spain.

I agree with your point yellowalf... Perhaps those who said Frendo should never play for Saints again were reacting in the heat of the moment and when their disappointment at the result was greatest, I don't know.
I also don't think it's in the club's interests to be draconian about it. But what I was calling for was some sort of transparency from the chairman and management. The supporters deserve that, at the very least.
Whatever the circumstances surrounding Frendo's absence, let's just see someone front up about it and tell us what has happened. Then the club can take whatever action it deems necessary – ranging from nothing at all to a slap on the wrist to a fine or whatever.
Then we can all make our own minds up how to feel about it and move on properly. That is a far, far better course of action than trying to pretend it didn't happen or ignoring it and hoping it'll go away.
Bottom line is, the star striker chose not to play in the club's most important match of the season. Fans are entitled to feel disappointed and let down about that but on the other hand sometimes stuff happens, sometimes people make decisions we don't agree with.
What is not acceptable is trying to draw a veil over it and thinking that fans' annoyance or questions are not relevant. 950-odd people turned up on Saturday. A good 3/4 of them will have been in the dark about Frendo's absence and they deserve to know what went on. I don't think that's unreasonable.

I completely agree with this, and nothing I've written suggests I think otherwise. I am, after all, one of those fans who was annoyed he wasn't playing when he might have made a difference.

Who else is there? I'd hope the players are consulted. Given the display from some of the others I'm not convinced that Frendo would have made a difference in Saturday's game but that is ignoring the possibility that the poor performances throughout the team could have been a result of the players unhappiness/disillusionment/call-it-what-you-want over the fact that Frendo was missing and that some of them must have known where he was. It really doesn't bode well for team-bonding unless he can persuade the rest of the squad that he does want to be a player for this club. A large part of successful football is creating a bond within the squad and once a player splits that then performances often suffer. IF, and its a big if, Frendo is let off with rapped knuckles and swans back into training I would like to know how he will be received by his team-mates. On the other hand if he stands up in front of them and apologises sincerely then I expect we can move on. I'll be closely watching the next game he plays in to see how the rest of the team are treating him.

I agree. Terrible, sneering and snide article.
I see the club have issued a brief statement saying that the issue will be dealt with when Frendo turns up for training later this week.

That Project Babb site is supposed to be funny. I say 'supposed to be'.
Thing is, we'd probably be having a bit of a chuckle to ourselves if Hemel's best striker did the same thing.

At least the club has issued some kind of statement but it's a shame they had to be reacting to the gradual leak and mickey-taking rather than on the front foot. I get that they want to speak to Frendo before commenting further but we're talking about a footballer missing a match, not a multi-national corporation that's been caught, say, fiddling its books.
The wording of that statement makes me wonder who it is they think they're talking to. It looks like the sort of statement a company would make when it has to give the barest legal details to the city ahead of some bad news. I'm always wary of football clubs who fail to talk to their supporters like they're people. A bit of the human touch wouldn't hurt.
Perhaps all that will come later on once they've had a chance to talk to Frendo and the rest of the squad.
Anyway, something is better than nothing.
(I thought I'd left all this sort of nonsense behind when I chose to support a non-league club! I thought it was about the people, something league clubs have lost sight of).

I think its up to the players and management to decide if they still want him there. If I was the manager (and I'm not) then he would go without a doubt. Yes he is a very good player but I would want someone who is committed and can be relied upon.
Anyway to the game itself, it really was a poor display and I feel every bit sorry for Lee Clarke. It's not his natural game to play as a lone striker but at least he gave it a go. The most frustrating part of the afternoon was that the management were every bit unimaginative as the players were which is worrying!
You could tell the formation wasn't working at all. The wide players did ok, but as soon as they received the ball and had a little run, all they wanted to do was centre the ball to which nobody was there so they had to pass it backwards or to a lone striker whose strength isn't holding up play. Why not try a simple 442 with the substitute striker and Clarke up front?!
It still bewilders me that even after the goal was conceded, we continued to play exactly the same way! This was a cup game and like many have said, probably the most important game all season. Why did they not take the gamble earlier on? The whole 2nd half we never looked liked scoring and I would have been far happier to see us lose 2/3-0 but at least give it a shot at equalising.
I agree with EFM regarding the half time team talks, whatever is said needs to be changed! Lord Lipiatt used to be sat in the dugout a good few minutes before the team even came out.
Good luck to Concord in the next round.
Anyway onwards and upwards!

Personally I hope John reads these threads and accepts how much controversy he has caused. I was totally unaware of why he was absent until the chants started at the end of the dismal display and the chairman told my mums partner on the way out of the ground that he was ill. Prior to Nick's statement Id already heard of rumours re Hemel and a trip to Spain. Being in a professional job the most important thing is honesty and trust in colleagues you work with. Sitting here writing this now I feel very let down with different stories and John especially if he went to Spain. It is now 2 hours away from the 1st round draw live on BBC2 and I am gutted. I sincerely hope this is sorted at training tonight and John is back in the team quickly. Being very selfish I just want what is best for the team and he is by far our best attacking option. Lee gave me great memories (Kidderminster etc) but is way past his best and Pires can stay on loan anywhere as far as I am concerned. Mitchell, like Heskey, gives us a different option and should have started IMO but we need Frendo to progress. Lastly, fair play to Concord, they deserved it and being in the first round proper for the first time I hope they get the draw to earn a big payday.

I have no criticism of the club so far other than the possibility of that statement coming out yesterday. As recentconvert says we are not a multi-national company or even a professional club with a P.R. department. All the members of the board have full time jobs,so cannot be expected to be on the beck and call of a few supporters. Saying that the chairman is very approachable, actually standing on the terraces at every home and away match, and Levy will always talk to fans in the bar after home games. They obviously have to give Frendo the opportunity of stating his case, which I would have thought would be at tonight's training session, before deciding on what course of action to take. It would be very interesting to know how the rest of the squad view this. Frendos sister first tweeted about his visit to the Bernabeu last Wednesday so I think it likely that the subject would have been discussed at last Thursdays training session. If the management knew then it is quite understandable that they kept it under wraps until the teams were announced at around two o'clock on Saturday.

I wonder if that means he's still out there, and if so, would he have missed any potential replay as well? Hopefully he comes back, says sorry, is forgiven, bangs in 30 goals over the rest of the season and we have a decent Trophy run. Hopefully.

Good luck to Concord.
Real shame as I could have seen us taking 1500 away.
Will be surprised if Concord take 150.
Hope this Frendo issue can be rectified amicably.

Anyway, whatever happens to Frendo, I'll back Gray/Golds/Levy's decision on what to do about his Spanish holiday. Shouldn't that be Gray/Golds/Archer's decision ?

The FA cup draw was Mansfield v Concord
Good draw for their club as they play a league side for the first time Won't be a money spinner though, no chance of being on TV and a pretty small crowd
Wonder if they'll match our 8-1

Any truth in the rumour that Gareth Bale was spotted at Clarence Park on Saturday? Cant see how John can play for us again. Shame. Don't want us to play against hin though!
