Dereck Brown had a spell with City too. If he has even a fraction of his Dad’s ability, he will be a good player.

Proving what exactly? Alex Tokarczyk has only played in 11 of their 32 games this season. A very useful backup keeper to have in the squad.

www.stalbanscityfc.com/avan-jones-joins-on-loan/St Albans City are delighted to announce the loan signing of Avan Jones. The 20-year-old joins the Saints from Championship side Luton Town until the end of the season. The versatile defender can operate as a full-back alongside playing in the heart of defence at centre-back. Avan is local to Luton, joining the Hatters academy in 2009 and impressing Academy staff at Kenilworth Road during his campaign with the Under 18’s at right-back under the leadership of Dan Walder and Andy Awford. Although his scholarship was cut short due to Covid-19, Avan was offered his first professional development contract in the Summer of 2020. Since then, Jones has gone onto feature on the bench for Luton in EFL Trophy cup ties, notably against St Albans’ neighbours, Stevenage FC.

Another freebie then, we need more experience but good luck to the young lad. We need to spend some money, go out and find one or two players proven at this level / the level above

www.stalbanscityfc.com/saints-sign-green-from-dragons/The Saints are delighted to welcome versatile left-sided defender Cameron Green from National League side Wrexham. The energetic defender started his career within the youth ranks at Met Police before earning a move to EFL Championship side Reading in 2016. After three years with The Royals, Cameron joined Premier League side Watford, where the youngster turned out for The Hornet’s Under 23 squad. Whilst at Watford, Cameron experienced his first senior football on-loan at Braintree Town in the National League South. He made 18 appearances across the league and cup for The Iron. Shortly after his return to Watford, and after a successful trial, Green departed for Wrexham, signing for the Dragons in April 2021. Green put in impressive performances during the latter end of the 20-21 National League campaign, featuring 6 times in the last 7 games of the season, which earned the left wing-back a new one-year deal for 21/22. Cameron has gone on to make 6 appearances in the National League this season, scoring in a 6-2 win against Kings Lynn. Pending international clearance, Cameron joins The Saints for the rest of the season, where he adds useful depth to the squad.

www.stalbanscityfc.com/saints-sign-striker-neal/St Albans City are pleased to announce the signing of 21-year-old forward Joe Neal. Joe makes the switch from Southern League Central Division side Biggleswade Town, where he has scored 11 league goals so far this season for the Waders. Neal is a product of the Cambridge United Academy system, originally spotted at just 6-years-old. He played his way through the age groups, going on to sign his first pro deal in 2019. He made his senior debut out on loan for Royston Town, where it didn’t take him long to start firing, scoring in his home debut. Joe went on to short loan spells at Needham Market and St Neots Town, before heading out to Biggleswade in 2020. Here he made an instant impression, scoring 5 times in 8 games before the season was cut short due to the Covid pandemic. On returning to Cambridge United, having made just one senior appearance for the club in November 2020, the young forward did not re-sign, instead returning to the Waders for the 21/22 season. Now joining the Saints, the 5’ 9” striker hopes he can bring the goals to mount a playoff push for City. “I want to help this team get in the playoffs, they are in and around it now, with games in hand, and as a striker I just want to score goals. Goals win games. I want to score as many as I can so we can push on. “I can receive the ball to feet, but I like to run in behind as well. I’m also happy dropping in deeper to get on the ball and provide link up play.” Joe will bolster Ian Allinson’s options up front, and will join the squad for tonight’s fixture away at Concord Rangers.

I hope the lad does well but it doesn't sound like he's particularly proven at this level - it also sounds like again Ian hasn't dug very far into his book of contacts. Time will tell, fingers crossed!

Sounds like we are spending the loose change from the cup run rather than anything substantial.
